Slow Pulse Rate

I have a pt who's radial pulse is 42 bpm, strong, regular. She exercises for

at least 40 mins Mon-Friday every day (gym and swimming).

My question: could this low pulse be due to the regular exercise, or is she

more capable of this exercise regime because she has a slow rate?

My books don't seem to make the difference clear. I suspect she may be

borderline hypothyroid (despite high energy levels). More details on request.

Thank you in advance,

Bullen

Some people have a naturally lower pulse than others - when fit, the

pulse becomes even lower!

In Priest & Priest's book Herbal Medication - they talk about the

Physiomedical principles of the dynamics between pulse and BP - I

haven't re-read it before this email, but the explanation may help

you...

Best regards,

Benn

Hi , what's your pt's BP? And her circulation?

I have a patient (PC: GIT probs) who had pulse of 48 and BP of 90/70 at

first visit (she confirmed, that this was not unusual). She had been jogging

for 4 months, but I couldn't believe that that was the only cause. Though a

nervy, speedy type otherwise, I included Rosmarinus & capsicum in her mix (she

also had poor circ & poor memory), and within 2 weeks pulse was 52 and BP

105/75, and she felt emotionally more balanced. I was quite amazed, not

having used my favourite scut or verbena at all!

Hope this helps

Sabine

P.S. my patient with paronychia had to go for surgery in the end, it seems

the nailbed hadn't grown properly after the first surgery, and they're

talking about removing it alltogether - thanks again for everybody's advice!
