You can make your own... here's my horse chestnut salve recipe: 1 l cold-pressed oil (I prefer safflower or rapeseed) 100-150 g dried herb 115 g beeswax Put oil into top bit of waterbath, add herb, let sit on medium heat for 1.5 hours; let cool, strain through cheesecloth, wring, always ensuring that NO water gets into the oil (wipe the underside of the waterbath bowl before pouring sorta thing). Pour oil into clean waterbath bowl, add beeswax, put on waterbath, put heat on full, wait until beeswax melts (takes about 15 minutes, if you move the wax about a bit in the oil). Take waterbath off heat. Use a 50 ml syringe to move hot hot hot salvemass into salve jars. Herbs for the horse chestnut salve: - 2 parts (by volume) dried horse chestnut leaf (easiest to pick), bark, or sliced-up dried fruit (need to be sliced before you dry them) - 1 part (by volume) dried young oak leaf (picked when still soft green; handle carefully, they get brown where you press them.) - 1 part (by volume) dried calendula flowers. This works a treat. Henriette -- Henriette Kress, AHG Helsinki, Finland Henriette's herbal homepage: http://www.ibiblio.org/herbmed

An oak is an oak is an oak is an oak - pick any. I think we have mostly Q. robur over here, but I haven't bothered to check - they're oaks. I have no idea -- I just know that the salve is even better with young oak leaves added. Shrug.
