Debbie,

I have never known adults that are on this. I do know that it is given to

children with ADD or ADHD. That is all I know about this.

[ ] Adderall and back from China

I have been taking Provigil for fatigue, but it's not really helping enough

any more. My rheumy told me to try increasing the dose, but it gave me such a

headache that I had to stop. Now he wants to prescribe Adderall. Is anyone

else taking it? I'm a little leery about it, but I need to try something new.

I don't know if anyone remembers, but I the last time I wrote to this list,

it was about my upcoming trip to China. I got back from China a month ago

with my new daughter. (She's fabulous, by the way! Happy all the time. Now

she just needs to learn to take a nice, long afternoon nap like her big

sister.) Before I left, I was worried about overextending myself on the trip

and possibly a flare. Well, the trip was great! For the first week, I felt

better than I have in a long time. (Adrenaline, I guess.) The fatigue started

to catch up with me in the second week, but I still coped. Fortunately, my

mother-in-law was here for our first week home as we recuperated from jetlag,

colds and my extraordinary fatigue. Now I'm back to my usual level of

fatigue, so I'm ready to find something to treat it.

Congratulations, Debbie! It's so exciting about your new daughter. I

had you in my thoughts many times over the past few weeks, especially

with the SARS updates on the news. I wondered if they had asked you to

postpone your trip, but obviously things went just fine.

I hope you find something to treat the fatigue.

Love and hugs,

Carp;

Congratulations to you and your family, Debbie! That is really great

news that your trip was a success and that you felt pretty good while

traveling, too.

Here is a description of Adderall from RxList.com:

Debbie,

First let me congratulate you on your new daughter! What a special

family she has found, and I wish you all much joy.

I didn't know that there was anything one could take for fatigue!

I'm going up to the Indiana U. rheumy May 12, so I will ask them

about the Adderall. That is one of the problems with Dercum's

disease, as with the other autoimmunes, so I'm sure that will be an

issue in my discussions with them. I've just been pumping vitamins

and protein when I get tired. I have quite an active lifestyle, and

as many of the people here will tell you, I refuse to curl up in a

ball. Though right now I don't have much choice (due to a fractured

ankle) I still tend to try to do what I used to.

Best wishes,

Judi

Congratulations on your baby daughter. I'm glad your trip went well.

Adderol is an Amphetamine, a stimulant that is used in the treatment of ADHD

and narcolepsy. Fatigue is the most common complaint of most everyone on

this list, but I've never heard of a stimulant being prescribed. I though

we just had to learn to live with the fatigue.

Debbie: My next door neighbor takes adderall....she was diagnosed

with fibromyalgia and myophasial pain syndrome. She is the editor at

a paper and was having an extremely bad time with fatigue....she read

an article on the web about the use of adderall to combat fatigue and

asked her doc about it, and she was put on it last year......she was

amazed at how well it helped her, but for about the first 3 months

she was asking me to tell her if she acted weird....anyway she feels

it has really helped her......congrats on your daughter......Kathi in
