Dear Carl

Some years ago I treated a man with severe athlete's

foot. He had tried treating himself with Tea tree oil

and had had a dreadful reaction to it. A number of

people are senstive to tea tree and so it is useful to

beware that such a reaction can occur in anyone and

wre the vagina is already irritated it is easy to

cause further irritation inadvertently.

I make my own pessaries - they are easy to make, but

the moulds are not so easy to get hold of, and I make

a variety. They are all based on Calendula but have

different oils and depending on the severity of the

case they get stronger pessaries. Some have lavender,

some lavender and thyme, some lavender and tea tree,

some lavender, thyme and tea tree.

tell her to add a tablespoon of cider vinegar to her

bath water and pay attention to all the things which

alter the pH of the vagina. I have also got a few

women to use garlic " pessaries " . Wrap a clove of

garlic in some muslin, peeled but do not nick the skin

at all or she will go through the roof when she

inserts it! Tie a bit of thread to it so it can be

fished out afterwards and change it at least once a

day. Sounds odd but works very well.

Also, if she has a partner then he should be treated

as well as he may be harbouring it without symptoms

and re-infecting her. I had a patient once who kept

having thrush. Eventually i discovered that it came

back every time she had sex. Her husband was horrified

that he might be responsible not because he felt bad

about it, but because it just wasn't possible. He

refused flatly to be treated by anyone. Probably

unethical, but I had to do what was best for my

patient, so I got her to put some tea tree oil in his

bubble bath and she never had thrush again. It is best

to get consent before doing soemthing like that, but

she was in a desperate state - at times she could

hardly walk the irritation was so bad.

Hope that helps

,

I don't know of an alternative supplier to HA, but 4 of us have just shared

an order for plastic pessary moulds (each of us have 25 moulds of 6

pessaries for £18.50 approx) and the making of pessaries with Calendula

infused cocoa butter with some teatree eo added was extremely simple and

quick. Hedley uses Cal pessaries successfully longterm for

cervical dysplasia too. So, if all fails, try making them yourself.

Suppliers: Quaestus, tel 01873 859299.

Best wishes,

Just to clarify, the list rules allow advertising as long as it is relevant

to the topic under discussion - this topic is a perfect example of when

advertising is permitted.

Ros if you do decide to prepare pessaries commercially then feel free to

post what is available to the list.

Hello everyone. With regard to pessaries/suppositories I can make these to

your specification if you wish. Contact me at Medica Ltd. Same number

as the practice at 01934 712848. Fax same number. If you want specific

herbal extracts or essential oils we can discuss. I am proposing to make

certain " standard " formulae which I will add to the Medica catalogue.

This will include organic tea tree oil pessaries, tea tree with thyme

essential oil both of these for thrush. Suppositories with witch hazel

extract and EO of Cypress (astringent) and oil of calophyllum (soothing)

for haemorrhoids. Also a formula for cervical dysplasia with essential oil

of Eucalyptus polybractea CT cryptone and calophyllum oil. The cost for 12

suppositories/pessaries 2g size will be £5 plus postage. Custom made may be

slightly more.

I hope this is helpful,

lind Blackwell

Graham,

Last I heard (2 months or so ago) HA were no longer producing pessaries.

Medica now offers standard and customised ones, which I've bought and

have had favourable comments on from the users.

(Re: the matter we discussed on the telephone - you should receive a

cockroach parts-free token of appreciation on Tuesday!)

Best wishes,
