Guest guest
That's just awesome, Kathi! You're so right about concentrating on other's problems helping to forget our own. I've been wearing a yellow ribbon pin, but I think I'll get a yellow tablecloth if I can find one, too. ((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((Big hug))))))))))))))))))))))))))) Carol Re: [ ] RE: It's me Thanks a ....and ...I am OK...today Marissa and I made a zillion yellow ribbons out of plastic tablecloths......cut them in strips and VIOLA.....and tied them on the trees in the center median of one of the main streets.....as we still have troops leaving from here...we wanted them to know they are supported.....Marissa walked the whole way and never once complained.......I figured being out in the outside and doing something would give me a new lease and it did......it always helps to concentrate on someone elses problems........Kathi in OK --- a <paula54@...> wrote: > Kathi, > I wish you had better news. Guest guest
Hey Okie~Girl...I don't know the name of the 2nd song...however I will ask my mom today when I see her! She had the coolest job in the 40's before she married my dad. She was the " dj " for a " canned music " company that piped music into restaurants and department stores. When she left, her boss gave her many of the old 78's they used. When I was little, it was the biggest treat when Mom let me play her records! I think my favorite was, " I just want some mo-ooney...give me some, give me some, give me some, give me some, do! " Well, maybe my favorite was " Ragmop, dooddly do ah-dee-ah-da, Ragmop, dooddly do ah-de-ah-da! " I think by the Mills Brothers. I had several nicknames in high school...Bubbles, Charlie Brown, and Momma! The reasons shall be forever kept a mystery!!! Love You Bunches.... Guest guest
I am trying to catch up with the sparce emails I was getting when kept bumping me off. I think this one is a week old! Sorry! Before I moved here over 8 years ago, I had no child support for a few years before I moved, so I had to do other things as " extra jobs " (besides my full time). I had stenciled & " free handed " walls for years for " friends houses " , and decided to do this " on the side " in some spare moments and make money. It paid WELL! My sister use to advertise for me at her Hospital she worked at, got lots of Doctors who wanted their Historical Houses " stenciled " to go with the old feel. Try climbing up to do a 10 or 12 foot ceiling line! Whew! But my favorite stencils (and most fun and you can WORK FAST with them, ) is taking a razor cut and cutting the " stencil " out of a Sponge. THis works well for flower borders, and my favorite.... IVY VINE sponge. Just find your favorite IVY VINE leaf growing in the yard, and lay it on the sponge and cut it out. You can use these type stencils to do wood fences (flower borders on the fence wall) and outdoor structures. I had an ugly metal Shed in the back yard when I moved here, and wanted to make it blend better and not look such an eyesore. So I did this with an IVY VINE pattern. All over and around, up and down, around doors, windows...... Before you do the " LEAF " , you take a fine point indelible Black MARKER, and do your " vining lines " for where you want them to trail. Then go wild with the sponge IVY VINE stencil. (you cut only ONE leaf sponge, just keep repeating same leaf all over). Remember, if you paint on METAL surfaces, put in a spoonful of DAWN dishwashing liquid in your PAINT. It is old " painters trick " , and helps it adhere to the surface. It does work. I painted my aluminum screen door green to match shutters, everyone said it would flake off fast. It has been 8 years, and not a flake! So I know it works. Its also still on the Metal Shed in a Vine pattern! You can also cut a " stencil " out by taking a large UNcooked Baking potato. Cut it out in the " pattern " you want. A potato makes an A-1 stencil, just like the sponge...and is " throw away. " Don't cook it later! Ok.... this was your DIY Monday Tip of the Day, coming from beautiful Coastal GA! Guest guest
Elf thank you for posting these links. I think you have just shown me my next vacation spot. It looks absolutley beautiful there. Here is some links to " The Golden Isles " where I live. I live in " McIntosh " (this is the " mainland " for Sapelo Island. Sapelo Island is within view of where I live. So pretty. We live on the Sapelo River. http://www.sapelonerr.org/ http://www.mcintoshcounty.com/ Here is Helsaple's site about Sapelo Island. Guest guest
, they say you can rent the little " cabins " that a lady runs...I forget her name. And people say it is the most fabulous vacation ever! I warn you though... NO stores, NO restaurants there... It is still basically " untouched " , except for the original houses, etc. No CARS on the Island! You ride the Ferry! And spend a very " nature/natural " type existence there! The do have electricity! It isn't that bad! The people on the Island are only the " owners " of the small homes. They are ALL descendants of slaves, and are very proud of " their Island " and heritage. No property there can be " sold " . The original SPAULDING house is there, from the late 1700's. It is HUGE and made of " tabby " with I believe, not sure... 2 foot thick WALLS! It has WITHSTOOD EVERY HURRICANE that has plowed everything to the ground, both on " the Island " and " the Mainland! You can type in SPAULDING PLANTATION SAPELO ISLAND GA on a " search " pattern and find the info on this outstanding place. (I am not sure of the spelling of Spaulding. It may be SPALDING. Not real sure just now.) Also, Many " Presidents " have visited this as guests of the owners... R.J. REYNOLDS (tobacco) is the most famous owner of the Spaulding Plantation. The Vet I worked for here in town was the SON of the Man who was R.J. Reynolds Veterinarian way back when. He had some fascinating stories of " growing up on the Island " when he was a boy and lived there all his life because his father was the Vet employed by him. You would NOT be disappointed. Somewhere in those LINKS were the Information and phone numbers of the Lady who has the " house/cabins " (like a Bed and Breakfast) where you can make reservations. Guest guest
Thanks for all the info. It sounds even better now. I can handle the no stores, no restaurants. I am used to that. I like in a town of less than three hundred people. The closest store is 10 miles away and closes at 6pm. lol My best friend and I usually take a vacation together in early June. She is a history teacher so, I know she would love this place. I am sending her all the info you have given me. Thanks again. Guest guest
Hey everyone. All these " fowl " stories got me to thinking of something I had completely forgotten about. ( Okay, sorry for the bad pun, blame it on lack of sleep. lol) When I was a kid my grandparents had a turkey. He would follow me around everywhere. He never hurt me. He was like a puppy or something. Just where ever I went, so did the turkey. Thing was, he was very jealous. lol He would flog anyone or anything that got close to me. I called him my " attack turkey " . Anyway, just thought I would share. Hope the rest of you all sleeping peacefully and as pain-free as possible.
