Welcome JD,,,,Ask away! Everyone here is very helpful and supportive.

I am a 48 yr old female with cirrhosis caused by alcoholic hepatitis.

I stopped drinking before they found my cirrhosis but I quit because I

was so very sick that I knew I had to. My story is on here somewhere.

I am in the process of getting on the list for a transplant and that is

going well.

What do her Dr's say as far as treatment or prognosis? Is she having

any trouble not drinking? Are the people around her supportive? Do

they think she might be a good candidate for a transplant? How is she

doing otherwise since her hospital stay?

Hang in there.....it can be a very long road and don't forget to take

care of YOURSELF too!

Hi, JD. My name is Bobby Aragon. I live in Denver, Colo. I have alhoholic

cirrhosis. My best friend died last August from alcoholic cirrhosis, so I am

living this horrible disease from two perspectives. I was the beer provider for

my loved one after she became too ill to drive, and then too ill to walk. After

she became so sick that alcohol meant less to her than living, she did manage to

stay dry long enough to get her to a hepatologist for a transplant evaluation,

but she was found unsuitable as a candidate, and we found a hospice for her. At

least she was warm safe , and she died clean, with people who loved her by her

side. I on the other hand am fighting for my life. I have been sober since

9-15-06. I want to be like , and get on the list, and our friend Aimee, who

got a fresh liver. I have stage 4 cirrhosis, with several complications which

are not the usual ones. In a separate post, I will post a glossery of some of

those big words. Thanks

My wife is 56 years old. Married 38 yrs and yes to the same women!

When the doctor first told us about her condition he said stop

drinking & immediately she did. I was amazed, no withdrawal no nothing

don't figure. She really abused alcohol ( whiskey ) straight, and more

so in the last 3years. Never drunk or intoxicated. Some of my

questions would be what would I look for in the coming months, the

hospital took out 6 Liters of fluid when she was there. She is on

three diacritics a day plus a Laxative for toxic. I am keeping a daily

record on what Meds she takes & her symptoms. I have been reading

about a book called " The first year with Cirrhosis " have you heard

of it, any good. Or shall I just stick to life's lessons. I'm looking

so forward to the many discussions with you all. Bobby when where you

Hi, thank you for your replay. I'm a young 60 yr old male & my

wife for life is 56. She stopped drinking as soon as the Doctor said

to. No withdrawal no nothing, I don't understand that. Lucky or what.

It's funny but when we went to the Doctor's office in Nov. for the

results 30' from him he said OH! my God you need to go to the emerg

(jaundice) and while he made the arrangements she sat up from the

table and said to me " I told you so I told you so " it still haunts

me today. I guess she heard me all those years. We are seeing a

specialist in February about treatment & I guess a prognosis. Any

comments on the latter. I to asked about a transplant but the doc said

she's not there yet. good news with that I guess. It is so nice to

have friends here for support. This for me is the first time I have

ever been on a site like this & all ready I'm feeling the love. Thank

JD, that sounds familiar to me. The Dr's initial reaction. I was

very jaundiced, very sick and went straight to the ER. I asked my

husband to take me one morning after being very ill off and on for the

past year or more and wasn't getting any better after a 5 day stint in

front of the toilet dry heaving. I had not been drinking for months.

I wanted to head down to Loma Hospital, one of the best in the LA

area as I hadn't been getting any help where I live about 45 miles

away. I was admitted and worked up good. I too was curious about

transplant at the time and they didn't want to discuss it quite yet.

It is a huge ordeal to get listed and they probably want to get her

stabilized and watch her for a little while. The fact that she isn't

still IN the hospital tells you something.

Do you happen to know what her MELD score is? Have you learned about

that yet? It is a combination of her blood values, specifically her

Bilirubin, INR and Creatinine. And a score they come up with. We can

post more about it if you don't know what it is.

I have a blog that I started the day I went to the transplant unit but

it has some history of my hospital stay and events leading up to

it….Lots of stuff about what I have gone through to get listed……(I am

NOT officially on the list yet…close but not yet) the site is

I am busy cleaning and getting ready for our Christmas company which I

am not sure I am happy about but I did invite them. We will have a
