Guest guest
Hello all, I've been impressed to hear about the health improvements that people on this list are experiencing by following NT. (IF you haven't shared your experiences yet, please do...) So, I thought I would share some of what's been going on with me. I'm 5'3 and have always been around 100 lbs. Eaten typical American diet most of my life...not as much " junk " maybe as most, but still alot. About 3 years ago, my mother in law found out she had breast cancer and that propelled me into researching alternative health treatments. In my studies, I realized that herbs do work, but diet is the " key " to regaining health, herbs are just the " icing on the cake " so to speak. And of course, most of what I read was promoting vegetarianism if not veganism. So, knowing I needed to clean up my diet, I became a vegetarian for the most part. And as I studied more, I tried to be more vegan. The vegan phase was around summer of 2000. I also did a herbal bowel cleanse and liver flush about that time. At first I felt great, eating all those fruits and vegetables, and my lifelong SEVERE PMS symptoms surprisingly went away!! I was thrilled!! And just assumed that this path to health would just continue to work. Well, in spring 2001, I was getting more fatigue than usual and realized I was down to 93 lbs!! That really concerned me... I was also craving more cooked and heavier foods. And I was having to eat something about every 2 hours just to stay satisfied. IF I didn't eat on time, I felt like I had low blood sugar... Fortunately, I had people mention Sally's name and Weston Price, so I began to read about his research and wow, did it answer some questions! The fat issue was still hard to swallow, but now I'm convinced. What I found was that Sally's book took the health food concepts even further. She promoted live enzymes, benefits of fermented foods, superfoods, and other healthy foods, but combined that with an emphasis on QUALITY animal products, fats, and proper preparation techniques to achieve the radiant health most are lacking. Drawing on the experiences of healthy natives was the missing piece of the puzzle in my mind, especially as I live in a culture that has become so commercialized and uninterested in the wisdom to be gleaned from our ancestors. As I have begun to implement NT's principles over the past few months, I've gained weight again(100 lbs.), feel more satisfied, and still have no PMS symptoms. Only when I overdo on sweets, especially Sucanat, do my painful cramps return. Other than that, I'm feeling great overall. My digestion has also improved because I used to need to take bitters about 1-2x a week. Now, I rarely use them. Another thing I noticed on the vegan diet...since I wasn't getting animal fats, the creases in my face started looking more pronounced. I'm not even 30 years old...too young for wrinkles!! But now, with all the butter I'm eating, my face looks better. I know this is a minor thing, but it still demonstrates the validity of this diet. I'm just so glad that I ran across this information when I did because I was starting to head downhill and was really not aware of the seriousness of it till now. Thanks, Sally, for getting the word out!!!! Becky
