Invitation to Participate Lactation Consultants: Influences on advancing clinical practice Hello, my name is Karolyn Vaughan, I am an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant® (IBCLC®) and currently undertaking a PhD at Griffith University in Australia to investigate the processes that influence IBCLCs in advancing their clinical practice (inclusive

of the recertification procedures). This study aims to identify the reasons IBCLCs choose to recertify and how recertification may be improved to advance IBCLCs clinical practice. The information acquired may not necessarily benefit you, however the research report with recommendations may be used by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners® (IBLCE®), to enhance the certification and recertification processes.

I would like to invite you and your IBCLC colleagues to come along to a focus group. The focus group will be held immediately before the MILCC silent auction on the 23rd of March in Arlington, Virginia, USA. The group discussion will be audio taped for research purposes only. Your contribution to the research and focus group will be strictly confidential, and your input will not be able to be traced to you. Attendance at the focus group will in no way effect your certification now or in the future. It is important that we hear your perspective on certification and recertification experiences.If you are interested in contributing to the research by having your say, please email me for more details, or to reserve your spot in the group. Alpha Detail is a pharmaceutical marketing research company, almost certainly

being paid by one of the formula companies to " survey " lactation consultants.
