Guest guest
Hi Ladies! Hope you are all having a great day! I'm cross-posting this to both LC/PP lists. In 's "The lactation consultant in private practice: the ABCs of getting started," one of the contributors mentions carrying a Polaroid camera to take a picture of the mother and baby as a keepsake of a successful nursing session. It can also be used to document special characteristics of the breast anatomy. I didn't even realize that they still sold Polaroid cameras - but yes, they are more colorful and streamlined now. I saw one at Target recently. I do have a camera on my mobile phone but I'm never satisfied with the pictures it takes. They are usually blurry, no matter how still me or the subject I'm shooting, tries to be. Does anyone else carry an inexpensive camera with them for each visit?A few years ago, I took photos with permission, of a very unusual characteristic on a mother's nipple using a different cell phone with a better camera lens. It was too difficult to describe in words. I also took photos of my own breasts because I wanted to show the effects of my immune system condition on the lactating breast and surrounding areas. After I had finished, I attempted to email Kay Hoover at several different email addresses I'd found for her over the Net, but they were all returned as undeliverable. I did see Kay at the conference two weekends ago but didn't have a chance to ask her for her current or preferred email address. Kay, can you contact me off-list with your email address? (Also, would Polaroid pictures even be suitable for use in the Breastfeeding Atlas?)Anyone with suggestions about taking pictures at home visits, please do share. Thanks so much. I'm enjoying learning from all of you.Sincerely,-Wollerton, CD(DONA), PCD(DONA), IBCLC, RLCwww.Mama-Nurture-Lactation.com
Guest guest
I don't, but the camera in my phone is more than adequate to the task. I do sometimes recommend partners/support to take a picture of mom and babe if they are comfortable with it as a way to remember what good nursing looks and feels like. Guest guest
I have a camera in my purse for any and all occasions, but if I want a picture of the mom and baby for her, I take it with her phone camera. If I want one for lecturing, I have mom sign a consent form, and then ask her again verbally and tell her exactly what I'm taking a picture of, and show it to her afterwards to make sure she is OK with it. Jan I don't, but the camera in my phone is more than adequate to the task.
