I like them fine. I use them at my PT LC job in a hospital and was the one that advocated them. They aren’t perfect, but an easy, free resource that has good info. I wish they had the laid back position and hand expression. I haven’t read every word so as with any government funded resource, there could be mis-information in them. I don’t like how they have the “white” BF book and the African American BF book. I feel stuck sometimes when I don’t have the right one or want to give one out blindly not knowing the race of the client. There are some mixed-in ethnic pics in the white book, but I would rather they have one English book. It does have some ethnic info in the AA book that maybe someone may better relate to. Most of my clients in the hospital are African American, and I haven’t heard that the client mention they liked that there were black women in each pic. They are coming out with a revised Spanish soon too. They are currently out of stock on the regular white bf books, but normally you can order 50 each and totally free of charge. I give them out to my La Leche League new moms, and if I have a client who is really into reading about breastfeeding because she has no prior knowledge.  They're not perfect, but they're pretty good. I've even used some of the articles as a conversation starter for LLL group meetings.

The 2 copies annoys me, I wish they just did a better job of making the first one multicultural.  Especially since one is SO WHITE and the other is marketed as African American, but really should just say multi-racial, and all of those people are just new faces put (or photoshopped) on the same bodies as the first one.  I was pretty shocked the first time I looked at them side by side, page by page....

But for a free, government produced resource, I'll continue to use it.  Sincerely, Katy , IBCLCMom & OwnerThe Stylin' Momma

Well other than I think it needs editing

to reverse the breastfeeding is easier, breastfeeding is better, breastfeeding

is healthier etc. etc. etc. instead of formula is harder to digest,

artificially feeding is riskier...etc. you know the drill! I think it is

fabulous! You can tell they worked very hard on this, especially when you

compare it to the little blue book they used to hand out. I just wish the next

printing could be edited and I would be happy to do it.
