Guest guest
That's impressive, ! Someone else told me about selenium, too, but I have not looked into it myself. I also am a vegetarian and used to crave seaweed. When I learned it wasn't good for my thyroid, I started cutting it out so now I don't crave it anymore. I would love to get rid of the sugar and salt cravings, though. Unfortunately, for my blood type is says to eat meat, and I can't do that. When I did eat meat for the first 26 years of my life, I was so sick. It was disgusting so I won't go into it. When I stopped with the meat, it totally cleared up. I did very well with an ayurvedic diet I went on for a short time to control my hot flashes. They disappeared when I ate that diet but it's hard to stick to unless you have the time to make your lunch at home every day and bring it in to work. Thanks for sharing your good results, though! It's encouraging and I will look more into changing things in my diet now. Diane > > Good Evening Y'all, > I'm glad to be here )I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's in January '09. I'm on a low dose of thyroxine and I have had good results when used in conjunction with naturopathy and/or acupunture. Guest guest
Hi Diane, I am a laxed vegetarian....I now include seafood & eggs into my diet but that's as far as I can go. I was vegan for the 10 years prior to my diagnosis. I was also told that iodine (seaweed)wasn't good for my thyroid, but later found that to be untrue. Some experts suggest that the overconsumption or the deficiency of iodine (and/or selenium)can be a cause of Hashimotos. In my case it was the later, my 3+ times a day soy dependency deplete my iodine and my craving for seaweed was my body trying to tell me to snap out of it. Supplementing with spirellina wasn't enough. Cutting all soy from my diet was very complicated but I didn't have a choice. My naturopath advised me to do a skin patch test to check how quickly the iodine was absorbed and it disappeared in 3 hours. I now do the skin patch test weekly and it usually stays visible for up to 10 hours. Not great but better. I've heard good things about the ayurvedic diet, but I haven't tried it. When I cut out wheat & corn (Type B diet)I noticed the biggest improvement with my sugar cravings. I suspect that I was self medicating with high energy foods to compensate for my undiagnosed hypothyroidism. Sugar is addictive too. Have you tried avoiding the foods suggested in your Blood Type's diet? Even though B says to eat red meat I don't but I do try to avoid the foods I can and make choices from the list of beneficial foods. Thanks for the kudos, I have a long way to go. Guest guest
Hi , I'll have to look up my blood type to see what foods to avoid. I only saw the " needs meat " part and stopped reading right there. I'm an O neg or pos (I forget -- I'll have to ask my sister who has the same blood type). Where does one get these skin patches to test for the iodine? I'll have to read again what foods contain selenium. I know I looked it up once but it's been so long that I've forgotten what the foods were. I also crave the seaweed and actually do eat some once in awhile. I get those Japanese avocado or cucumber rolls with the sushi sticky rice and the seaweed wrapped around it. Maybe I should listen to my body, too, and eat it more when I get the urge. It's great learning new information on diet, etc. Thanks for sharing! Diane > > > > Hi Diane, > > I am a laxed vegetarian....I now include seafood & eggs into my diet but that's as far as I can go.
