Guest guest
Blavatsky certainly DID go to india n annie besant, her follower, did a lot for Indians to respect their own culture despte British rule.. i think u were questioning Tibet not India. in defense of theosophy - it was a very Aquarian phenomenon - hpb, Rudolf Steiner, Baker Eddy. anna bonus kingsford were all part of a movement to make esoteric teachings open for first time. n these women were the first women to teach outside of the church since hypatia of alexandria, who was asassinated by Christ monks in 413 a.d. hpb had an impact on Yeats - golden dawn - on Gandhi, on thomas edison n a slew of others. theosophy is now over 100 yrs old n getting to be quite respectable. the Dalai Lama n all kinds of others publ in their journal. what is espec good ab em is their openness to ALL religions n also to the work of Jung. we shld imho not confuse the personalities - eccentric or not - w/the gifts they bring. my motto: keep an open mind n a good crap detector! there seems to be an inherent fear in humankind of new or higher perceptions, so we kill or ridicule the messengers - Jesus, Al Hallaj, the Bab, Gandhi, King. the list is long n saints are many - known or not. even the Dalai lama lives under cont threats on his life. n all he preaches is 'my religion is kindness'! getting back to the fundamentalists - they truly MEAN well n as dan points out, the total lack of spirituality in pub education is to make a god of matter n then the coll Self gets so easily projected onto -isms or political systems or leaders. When kids see their parents bowing to something invisible, it makes an impression. w/out this it gets proj onto the visible. just observe the Christmas shoppers! Santa Claus is Jupiter in disguise! - the process is GIVING - but often the receivers see the things n not the love. sad but true. hidden in all the hoopdedoo is truly the 'return of the Light' n the potential inner rebirth n affirm of the Div Guest. symbolized by winter Solstice. all these matters were mysteries - still are - but it helps to bec consc of the synchronicities. for me, it deepens the awe. Jung in a footnote pointed out that the absc of the goddess in the protestant nations lies hidden in our need fot 'Cherry Queens', n pageants celebrating pretty young maidens. Elvis Presley is dionysius - the tears of people at Graceland are genuine! the archetypes are largely secular n many are hidden in our comics n certainly in celebrity worship n rock stars. we all walk the razor's edge betw wisdom n folly - as Toynbee said - it's not what happens to us but how we REACT that determines our fate n therein lies our freedom of choice. i think that for 25 cents u can get a little summary of theosophical tenets. they are almost identical to basic Sufi tenets or what Meister Eckhart had in mind. Mercury rules WORDS n he is a trickster - aha! so at the bottom of so much divisdion lie semantics. that's why God geometrizes! n Sophia lies hidden in the processes that are hidden in " things " . Virtutes divinae in res diffusae. - Agrippa i think we at j-f wld agree w/paracelsus theophrastus bombastus when he declared in the first line of his auto-bio - Fear not - I am different! your eccentric but ever-lovin' aoh:} Lots to be grateful for! (Reason #207 of why I live near Boston; why I am at home here. We mean to stay free.) And there were representatives from the Theosophical Society at the Parliament of the World's Religions at the great meeting in Chicago six years ago. I spent an enlightening several hours with them. Ahhh and Alice dear, you mention Hypatia and I realize how very far I have to go. At her very name I reach for my sword and I am so full of hurt it feels like rage. Still workin' on that one. but smiling, phoebe
