Any doctor that says they don't is bordering - maybe not bordering on malpractice. What made them decide " alcoholic cirrhosis " I wonder ? You have not been a heavy drinker ? Did you tell them that ? Did they do a biopsy to confirm that ? Plenty of cases of cirhossis are not caused by alcohol. It's just the best known and has been known about the longest. Find another doctor. Guest guest
You are going to have to fight them , so go ahead and get mad, because that will help you fight them . You are a human being and they took the hippocratic oath to help sick people. Call his office back and ask them if you do not need to see him than to please tell you who you need to see . Let them know that you know cirhosis is not something to be ignored, even if there is no cure-all treatment. Let them know you know that is extremely bad advice. Throw out the word malpractice if you have to, because you won't be seeing him again anyway. This illness can be slowed down or even stopped from progressing further. Plus there are transplants. As far as what to do now, assuming they are correct that you have cirhossis, there isn't a whole lot to do. 1st of all don't drink anymore alcohol ever, even if you never drank much. Stay away from toxins as much as possible - aerasole sprays, chemicals, etc. When you breathe that stuff your liver can't process it. It can't process a lot of drugs either, prescription or over the counter. Stay away from Motrin, Advil, Tylenol, aspirin as much as possible. Some medicines that may have been helpful to you may harm the liver, so you have to find out what you can and cannot take. Good luck and hang in there ! Find a Gastro doctor or hepatologist as soon as you can. Guest guest
- make sure you get a complete copy of your records before you say the word malpractice. In fact, I would be very nice until you get them. I left a hospital because of their incompetence a while back, they won't give me or anyone else copies of my records there. Guest guest
, my cirrhosis was discovered during surgery for something else. Was told it was alcoholic cirrhosis, but I dont drink. Surgeon insisted it was, said its the only way you get this kind. Well have since discovered that NASH and alcoholic hepatitis are indistinguishable in appearance and that NASH is diagnosed thru biopsy and history of little or no alcohol use. Please get that biopsy and bloodwork, so that you will at least know where you are in this disease. Im not one that advocates a lot of doctor visits tho. Find they are usually a waste of time, money and energy. But it is necessary for you to have that biopsy and find out if there are any underlying factors, etc that need addressed. Such as portal hypertention, diabetes, etc. How did they make the discovery and diagnosis. Plus if you get it before the end of year, your insurance deductible is probably used by now, so your share of cost will be cheaper than if you wait for a new year to start. Guest guest
By Federal law, they have to give you copies of your records. They can only charge you so much per page for copying. To find out more, call your Department of Health at the state in which you live. Colleen Jan Holman wrote: - make sure you get a complete copy of your records before you say the word malpractice. Guest guest
They have the records in their possession. Only they know what is in those records so they can edit/delete anything they want to, such as info which could be used in a malpractice suit. It happened to a friend of mine.
