Guest guest
Here is what i put on my family blog about escaping that damn hospital today (don't get me wrong, I would recommend Texas Transplant Institute to anyone but after 5 weeks, it's time to leave). As you all have seen, we finally made it out of the hospital and made it to the hotel room. It has been ONE hell of a day to say the least. This morning after Dr. came and said " well I see no reason to keep you here any longer, unless you want to stay? " I looked at Aimée who usually listens but doesn't look at the medical CREW (usually about 5 to 9 people) turned to Dr. and smiled and said " really? " . So after a lot of smiling I ran to Lackland to get her medicines so we can leave. After about an hour and a half on base hitting a few very needed stops I finally got my tail back to the hospital. We were trying to get the foot doctor back so she could do the phenol on Aimée's toes so the nails grow back better but that didn't work out right (to see why re-read THIS). Apparently the doctor was in surgery and unable to get to us before we discharged. There was a joke about staying another day to see the doctor and I think Aimée might have flipped off the nurse but I'm not sure considering I was throwing stuff at the nurse. Just kidding! So we eventually did leave and as I was getting the car and I drove up to the door. As I did the nurse said, HURRY UP! Well, I wasn't draggin to much so I asked why as I got the door. Apparently some guy was having a BAD DAY! As Aimée and the nurse tried to go into the gift shop, there was a dude their saying he wanted to shot himself! So, before the cops could lock that place down and make us stay, we tucked Aimée in the car as the nurse was getting people to the gentleman who needed help. Up until now Aimée has been getting up from a raised toilet seat or the bed raised up. She really didn't have to move too much to get to a standing position. Well the car I'm renting is a Chevy Cobalt (aka Cavalier) and that bad boy sits about 2 inches from the ground. Well it took a little to get Aimée in the car and it took A LOT more to get her out. So, as we came into the room and she went to the bathroom and then sat down into the office chair to eat lunch while sitting (that's actually part of the rehab is to eat sitting up in a chair because it uses more muscles). Problem is the chair is also pretty low compared to everything we had been doing until this point. Well we finally got Aimée into bed and it was NOT easy at all. After we got her into bed, I had to run to Walgreen's for three missing prescriptions from earlier (nothing crazy, just little stuff). When I got back Aimée as sitting in bed and calmly said, I tried to roll over and it was VERY nice but then I started leaking! Well the ascites that has been still left in her belly started to come out. We had been told in the hospital that they expected her to leak/drain once she started moving more and they were surprised it had not happened yet. So HOLY CRAP did she start draining! Lets just say we had to get MORE towels, sheets, and I ran back to our friends at the ICU. Those people rock! I called back and Sara (who hooked me up with that fridge scheme) said come on over and she gave me " SOME " supplies to get me through the night (or maybe a week)! I took a sample of the fluid to show them and they verified that it was just the ascites and she had nothing to worry about. Just keep repacking it and if it doesn't stop by tomorrow early morning then we should call the clinic and think about going in. Otherwise, this is normal. She more than likely just popped a bag of the fluid and it HAD to just come out now. So after a bunch of sets of the wraps we finally got it all stop flowing. Changed the sheets on the bed and changed Aimée's clothes and got her comfortable in bed. We did the last set of our pills for the night and now she is out like a light! She was awake more today and did more today than any two days before so I think she earned a good night sleep. And yes, we are finally going to be in the same bed for the first time since early July I think. Granted on very opposite sides so I don't hurt her when I move around. Well folks that's it for now. You all take care and I will talk to you later.
