That's good to know, I've always heard you have to milk them twice every day if you want them to keep producing. There's a book I'd like to get called The Family Cow (amazon has it), recommended to me by someone who raises dairy cows on grass. I think it'll be a while before I can realistically think about fitting a milking cow into our lives, we have so much going on! However, we have talked with some other members of my family who live nearby about having a sort of family co-op, where we use our land to grow good food for us all, and can rely on them to help out with labor and expenses. Every day it seems more and more important to have control over more of our own food production. I have these nagging thoughts when I buy organic produce, for example, like " how do I REALLY know this is organic?
