Guest guest
Thank you, I will look into it. Tyring to find a research paper/article etc to pass onto OB's who only want to give moms 1 or 2 days supply of fluconazole. Guest guest
Do you have the first edition of Clinical Therapy in Breastfeeding Patients by Hale and Berens? Dr. Hale gives the information in there about treating for 14 days, with a double-dose on Day 1. He took that out of the second edition, when he convinced himself that there is no such thing as ductal yeast. Guest guest
I'm looking at the 2010 edition of Medications and Mothers Milk for dosage of Fluconazole(Diflucan). Systemic candidasis is listed as 400mg loading with 200 daily for 28 days. No mentiopn of dosage for candida infection on nipples. Dee, do you think that the higher dosage is for ductal candida( systemic ) and possibly a lower dosage can be effective if just the nipple is infected? Ellen Simpson Tampa, FL Yes I do and I found it, Thanks Melitta>
Guest guest
Ellen, I'm not Dee -- but I'm sure she'll respond... This is my take on candida of the nipples -- using Diflucan for that is sorta like shooting a fly with a cannon. Not to mention I've never found it effective for the few moms that have been put on it. Topical is a much better way to go, plus acidophilus. Have you tried coconut oil? That's my first go-to for nipple yeast. Jan I'm looking at the 2010 edition of Medications and Mothers Milk for dosage of Fluconazole(Diflucan).
