plugs.  She pumps 4 times per 24 hours (every 6 hours) and produces 30-40oz

(she had a nasty mastitis that dropped her supply the hard way 2 months ago).

Plugs occur regardless of if she pumps more frequently or not.  They are always

there.  In the first half hour of pumping she gets maybe 2oz because of lack of

letdown.  So she continues to pump because she knows the breasts are not even

close to empty.  In that next half-hour she will finally have a letdown (around

30-40 min into pumping) and be able to empty the breast.  Her breasts require a

lot of massage and compression to help drain.

component here, but just focusing on the good she is doing for her baby isn’t

the insanity.  L  I feel for her in a big way.

Hello, Melita.

BREASTFEEDING REVIEW is published by the Australian Breastfeeding Assocation. They don't seem to have links to the publication online. You can learn more about it here:

Thank you, I will look into it. Tyring to find a research paper/article etc to

pass onto OB's who only want to give moms 1 or 2 days supply of fluconazole.

Do you have the first edition of Clinical Therapy in Breastfeeding Patients by Hale and Berens? Dr. Hale gives the information in there about treating for 14 days, with a double-dose on Day 1. He took that out of the second edition, when he convinced himself that there is no such thing as ductal yeast. (a point I disagree with)

I'm looking at the 2010 edition of Medications and Mothers Milk for dosage of Fluconazole(Diflucan).

Systemic candidasis is listed as 400mg loading with 200 daily for 28 days. No mentiopn of dosage for candida infection on nipples.

Dee, do you think that the higher dosage is for ductal candida( systemic ) and possibly a lower dosage can be effective if just the nipple is infected?

Yes I do and I found it, Thanks Melitta>

Ellen, I'm not Dee -- but I'm sure she'll respond...

This is my take on candida of the nipples -- using Diflucan for that is sorta like shooting a fly with a cannon. Not to mention I've never found it effective for the few moms that have been put on it. Topical is a much better way to go, plus acidophilus. Have you tried coconut oil? That's my first go-to for nipple yeast.
