Guest guest
I guess my fear is that I can't tolerate antidepressants. I get hyper, racing thoughts, can't sleep. So I think I won't be taking the new drug. I guess I just want to feel better. My activity level is so low, today I was in bed all day, and I just miss my life. I was out yesterday with my mother for 2 hours and had a rough night so today I was no good at all. She doesn't understand my CFS, she thinks its like her fybro. True, they are similar, but the problem is she feels better when she is moving and being active, I don't. I suppose I just sleep until it goes away? I don't know. > as a general rule since those of us with CFIDS are so sensitive to meds I start with a half dose of a new med and woek my way up. that way if you do experience side effects they are not so strong. of course most docs would say NOT to do this that you need to take the full amount for a therapeutic dosage. But they are not the ones to have to get so sick from the side effects are they? I would encourage you to only make one medication change at a time so you know for sure if it is the new Rx or if you are going to withdrawal GRADUALLY off of an old med do that first before trying a new med. If necessary, go off your old med(don't know the particulars in your case for doing that) until you are back to feeling normal(as normal as we ever get) whatever your state of normal is and then try the new med @ half the prescribed dose( see what side effects you experience) and gradually work your way up to the prescribed dose if you can tolerate it. Guest guest
I don't know how much Effexor you were on or for how long...but I tried to just stop it one time to start another med and thought I was going to die!! Same thing when I tried to suddenly stop Zoloft...any of these meds should NEVER, NEVER, NEVER be suddenly stopped!! I would guess that is why you felt so bad...like Diane said, stop the meds (slowly) and clear your system before starting another is right on...although admittedly easier said than done! xoxoxo > as a general rule since those of us with CFIDS are so sensitive to meds I start with a half dose of a new med and woek my way up. that way if you do experience side effects they are not so strong. of course most docs would say NOT to do this that you need to take the full amount for a therapeutic dosage. Guest guest
AND...MAKE SURE YOUR DOCTOR DOES TELL HAVE YOU TAPER DOWN DOWN FROM ANY MED YOU'VE BEEN ON LIKE THIS. My stupid idiot doctor was the one who told me to stop the Effexor completely and start this other med!! It totally ruined my business trip and vacation to Disney World for the first time. Why in the world this doctor had me just make the change is beyond me...but it is a mistake I WILL NOT ALLOW TO HAPPEN AGAIN!! Sometimes, you have to be smarter than your doctor...what a shame, isn't it? > > I don't know how much Effexor you were on or for how long...but I tried to just stop it one time to start another med and thought I was going to die!! Guest guest
> Sometimes, you have to be smarter than your doctor That's why they call Doctors' work " practice. " Doctors only learn from sick people. Without sick people, there would be nothing to learn. They pay so much for their educations, and it takes so long and so much out of them, they may come out of medical school and internship thinking they know everything...a common perspective of youth and inexperience. The best doctors continue to learn from their patients. In the meantime, they deserve our compassion while we learn from their mistakes, taking charge, more and more, of what we put in our mouths. We are the only ones living in our bodies. it's up to us to report, as best we can, what's going on in our own bodies. It is up to us to report to our docs what isn't working for us, asking for clues from our paid professional consultants, that is, doctors, why that might have happened or will that side effect go away? Without their mistakes as regarding the best care for us, we wouldn't know how damn smart we really are. : ) toni
