Guest guest
Did you notice anything significant when you added the nasal spray? I would really like to try it for my ADD son, who is also 7. We should be doing a GFCF diet here, but started with enzymes instead. Call me lazy, but it seemed like a far easier alternative. I have been looking for and buying some GF products, but it's expensive, and some of the foods just don't taste as good, or cook as nicely etc. The diet itself just didn't seem very pleasent. Id' do it if I had to, but if I can avoid it and use enzymes, all the better! We stick to a whole food diet as much as possible, though. My son is using AFP Peptizyde, Zyme Prime and No-Fenol, all chewable and all wihtout papain or bromelain from Houston Nutraceuticals. I just went for all three since each is good for different things: No-Fenol is good for high phenolic foods as well as for yeast issues, Zyme Prime is good for carbohydrates, fats and proteins and Peptizyde is good for gluten and casein. We've been using the enzymes now for about 2 weeks. I have nothing significant to report for my son behaviorally or otherwise. Sometimes, I understand, it can take 3 weeks or so to see any changes. I'm hoping that with the enhanced and more complete digestion, particularly with gluten and casein, we'll see improvement in his ability to focus and concentrate, and also see an improvement with his psoriasis. Have you looked at the web site enzymestuff.com? Lots of good info. there if you haven't seen it. Also, there is a group that you can join called http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/EnzymesandAutism/. There is a link to this group somewhere at enzymestuff.com as well. It might be worth looking in to. There isn't much out there about enzymes with AD(H)D but we already know diet can improve symptoms, so it certainly can't hurt. There are probably other things we should be looking at, as you have. We're going to see his naturopath doctor next week and I'll bring this stuff up to her. There is a DAN! doctor on staff at the clinic, so I might switch doctors if I have to. I have tried a dairy free diet and a diet free of preservatives, dyes, artificial colors/flavors, etc. for my 7 year old ADD/ADHD son. My DAN doctor is now recommending a GFCF diet, but I often see the SCD mentioned on this site. I have also read that a no-phenol diet can also help people with ADD/ADHD. I am feeling overwhelmed and not sure where to start. We have done chelation, supplements, B12 nasal spray, and anti-fungal treatments with our DAN, but now we need to get serious about his diet. Any advise is greatly appreciated.
