induced lactation question

thanks for the resources for my previous donor milk  query for my relative.  i am back with a different question, on behalf of the same relative.  she does not want to induce lactation, for a variety of reasons, but is likely open to donor milk, and i am not considering relactation for her adopted baby (due in feb).

i am trying to decide if it's worthwhile, and am wondering if anyone has experience with a client relactating years and years after last pregnancy/breastfeeding.  when i was nursing my kids, (each for several years) i had bountiful milk, but never tried to pump much at all, except once for a sick relative and had not a lot of luck with pumping yield.   but i am sure i could have tweaked it and gotten more, if i'd kept trying.

but i haven't nursed in over 9 years, almost exactly.  there is not time for me to do the extended newman goldfarb protocol, but i could take birth control pills for a few weeks before babe is born) and domperidone.  i could also take goats' rue.  i am over 35 (actually 43), so would need to take the progesterone only pills, according to the protocol site, which it states would likely produce a lower yield.

i am curious how much milk i might expect to get - and if that would be much different if i skipped the bcps and/or the dom.  jen tow, (and maybe others) are not fan of dom, i know - what protocol would you use, in that case, jen, under these circumstances and how much yield might you expect?

thanks for any ideas!lyla

wow lyla you are quite the relative!! i've worked with quite a few moms over 40 who have been successful at inducing lactation and not doing hormones at all. just pumping and galactagogues. by success i mean getting some milk--not necessarily a full supply. i say go for it if it's important to you. quite a time commitment, my dear.let us know what you decide and what happens!I haven't nursed anyone for 12 years, but sometimes I swear there's still milk to be had...
