Guest guest
Dear Friends: I justed wanted to say that it can take a very, very long time to find a doctor to help you with this. I sometimes think I saw more doctors than most and more than anyone should see in three lifetimes. But, in the end of it, I met Dr. Milhorat and he is the greatest that you could ever hope to know. When my ear first started pounding, I began seeing one doctor after another after another. I would tell them I had a daily headache... front and back of the skull radiating into my neck and cervical spine, the pounding in my ear always in pace with my heartbeat and facial pain. I had MRI's and if they even bothered to look at them, they said they were normal. If they read the report, they would say it was normal or normal variants and not the cause of my symptoms. Most of them said they never had a patient who complained of pounding in the ear. Finally, in the third year of my doctor visits, one Neurotologist said my noises were just Pulsatile Tinntitus and to just live with it. One day, I went to see a neurosurgeon who worked at one of the best hospitals here. I told him my symptoms. He looked at my films and started yelling at me for wasting his time. There was nothing wrong on my films and he was too busy with real surgeries for people who had brain tumors and real problems and who were not bothering him with nonsense about a headache and a noise in the ear which was meaningless. He picked up my films, threw them on the floor and stormed out. I bent down and picked everything up and I can remember my hands shaking. I was so humiliated and still nowhere closer to knowing why my head hurt all day everyday and why I had that pounding noise. Of course, I would up in tears and that made my head hurt more and my ear pounded more. I still had years ahead of me to visit doctors and have more appointments that all led to nowhere.....just variations on the same theme. Most of the other doctors I saw did not yell but they all missed it. Some of them laughed at me, some thought I was complaining about nothing but as a whole, they all felt that there was nothing wrong with me that they could treat. So, when I first met Dr. Milhorat and he spoke to me like a person and he asked me questions. Imagine, the greatest doctor ever asked me about the same condition that other doctors laughed about or ignored. He also has never yelled or laughed at me. Not only, do Dr. Bolognese and Dr. Milhorat help us surgically, they reduce so much of the frustration that develops in us when we spend years like this. My point is you just cannot give up with this. I wasted years of my life trying to find a doctor as have many others. Things are much better today and there is so much more information than when I first started with this. You just cannot give up after one or two or fifteen appointments.
