Hi everyone this is way off topic.

I need some personal advise. My daughter just turned 12, I have been told by a

few of mothers all with children way younger mine, that I need to be talking to

her about mechanics of having sex.

Any words of wisdom?

Warmly

She's probably heard things from other sources already...I would want to try to find out what she knows first to correct any misinformation.  I love the books by Robie .   " It's Not the Stork " is for younger kids.  Haven't checked out " It's So Amazing " but that's his book for 7 and up.

Good luck! LLLL IBCLC Los Angeles

Plus, with a mom who works with pregnant and new moms, I bet she has picked up a lot from you! Which is good, because what she absorbs from you will come in the context of your own moral code.My kids (7 & 11) have know the mechanics of sex since preschool, but I've clued them in to the other aspects of it only as they have asked or it has come up naturally. Which it does pretty regularly.Lynn in MO

She and her brother watched me give birth. So they know how babies get out they

just don't know how they get in. They know what periods are and why women have

them.

I just don't even know where to begin this conversation with them. But I bet

they know more than I think they do.

I'm going to check out those books. Thanks,

Elaine

This book is great; it relates the sperm fertilizing the egg to plants and

animals. Not so much about the actual mechanics, though.

This book deals with the fact that we do feel embarrassed as parents, and brings

out the myths surrounding where babies " come from, " without getting too
