Previously my son was diagnosis with PDD by a Developmental Pediatrician.

Two weeks ago he was re-diagnosis with Tourettes Syndrome, due to his tics

and OCD behaviors by another doctor. Is it possible for a person to have

both PDD/NOS and Tourettes? Or has the Tourettes cause his delayed speech

development and social development?? The Neuropsychologist said that he has

be misdiagnosis all this time. She feels that because he is very loving and

tries to make social contact that he isn't PDD. I'm wondering that is it

not possible that because we're working to help him improve in these areas

that she thinks this. Darrien just turned 8 and is in the 3rd grade,

although maturity/communication he's more 5-6 range. Just looking

everywhere for answers to avoid 4 more years possibly on the wrong track.

AT & T Labs Interactive TTS Demo (fwd)

If you have a kid who can type but not talk or just for fun try this web

page, it will say in words what ever you type.

Lots of children with an autism spectrum disorder are

loving and try to make social contact, especially ones

who have had lots of structured positive early

experiences geared toward promoting social interaction

and verbal behavior. Also, labels don't explain or

cause anything. But labels do name something. It is

important to get the label that most accurately names

the particular (in this case) neurological syndrome or

disorder so that the most appropriate interventions

may be sought. An updated assessment by someone

experienced in evaluating the PDD's could be valuable.

Dear Belvin,

I have never taken anything a doctor has told me to be complete and utter

truth. They simply do not know all the answers and a label is simply that..a

label. Your course of action should still be the same. Many children with

PDD/NOS autism (whatever!) are affectionate. My own son who is 6 gives hugs

and kisses and plays with my 3 year old and is beginning to share. He is

certainly autistic although my Ped. Neurologist will tell you he's PDD/NOS.

I don't believe Tourettes causes social development delays and OCD can be

classified many ways. Lining up trains and matching things could be seen as

OCD but is certainly a symptom of autism. See what I'm getting at here? I

hope this is helpful to you. My guess is to go with your instincts and not

trust that every doctor knows more than you do. I am actually this Ped.

Neurologists better sources for autism, scary isn't it. I nearly dropped my

jaws when he told his intern that. GEESH!-Trina Sherman--- Original
