And of course please question EVERYTHING i say. and bring it up if so inclined. but rather a stream of consciousness open for comment. I'd love to be at a place where there is no excess in my diet and going to the gym wasn't necessary from a point of view of maintaining physical fitness. A lot of my thinking about exercise being neccesary and beneficial Movement is wonderful. Our bodies were designed and love to move perhaps comes from things deep inside of me... like a fear of being FAT! i was a gym junkie as a teen and used to run 10kg - not for the sheer joy but because i feared being fat as i was a a kid and i realise i still have that That goes way way back to early childhood stuff.... we should start a club! LOL He says that working out is unnatural, i cant remember but i imagine he is referring more to the WAY people work out - end gaining - not enjoying it. you know those people you see jogging and gimacing not bouding with sheer delight but then so is driving my car hurtling around at 60 mph, and flying in airplanes, and and sitting at a computer all day.... I work in front of a computer now for about 6 hrs/day, and later, working out makes the balance. Of course, I'd rather be gardening, and doing yoga, and going hiking, and all those more natural things (that I do when I can), but I'm faced with the reality of earning enough to pay the bills. its ok - really it is! and some people really need to move more intensely - excercise than others - this has been the topic of some mb discussion lately - can't remember who said it - sandy as well in an email it is great for the liver qi that is why some people get addicted to excercise too besides endophins but what do you do if you can't excercise? if you are ill or injured. should one be RELIANT on the expending of caloried etc to mainatain their weight etc? And then I think that not all of us are created equal.... if we have different "doshas" some of us are prone towards sluggishness. for sure Exercising (I like Turbo Kick Boxing) relieves a lot of stress I feel from day-to-day and improves my mood immensely. it sounds like it is fun for you why were you offeneded ;-) Some people can go hours and hours without eating, but I'm not one of those people due to hypoglycemia issues. I also can't it amazes me how my dad can go a whole day and more with no food. but that is not good for you either - your body then makes ketones Eating less has been something I have to PRACTICE!! I think all this trying to undereat is not healthy for our minds or bodies. Okay - I eat too much in volume. I think by excess he was more referring to things like animals foods and other stuff that gums up the works It's not easy! I feel uncomfortable being hungry... that is not something to aspire to! For sure That statement in his newsletter came across somewhat judgmental and critical to me. a lot of what he says does. and some of it really speaks to me same with many teachers - you just take on board what resonates I've been thinking about it a lot....as though he was speaking directly to ME! well he was - didn't you realise - I think I should check and copy in the Dear part! ;-) I know I have certain food addictions, so maybe he's right about excess, but still... What do others have to say??!! I'd love to hear other people's ideas. Maybe my consciousness is too rigid on this! Hope everyone had a good weekend, thanks for sharing your ideas. Guest guest
Hi Ilanit, Yes, I saw my name on his newsletter! Can you imagine??!! LOL! :-) But I agree about the importance of getting to the bottom of what ever the emotional trigger was for me. Related to this, you mentioned what do you do when ill or injured? You REST! I've learned that taking a little time off (one or two weeks) doesn't make a big difference in the big picture. But then again, now that I'm very busy with much less opportunity to exercise over a longer period of time (month to month), I have gained weight. That could be part of this emotional trigger.... This brings up the topic of excess. I def. don't eat the meat, dairy, etc. that you mentioned below, but there is still something I'm having too much of (oil, fruit, sweets???). Logically, you'd think that if you have less output, one needs less input, but I still feel really hungry and still eat the same amount... but obviously (?) it's more than I need. Could be related to stress, lack of sleep, and/or hypoglycemia... Macrobiotics always talks about eating less, so that is why I have this idea that I eat too much. YOu should see how tiny the servings are in Japan. I always felt like this giant mouth and stomach sitting at the table compared with the little bird appetites and servings at the table. Good to compare different varieties of exercise to put it all in perspective. Yes, the TKB class is fun -- like dancing, but it's not always something I WANT to do but feel I SHOULD do, if you know what I mean? Yoga is different. I look forward to it a lot. I have contemplated what draws me to lifting weights. As I look around, I know my consciousness is quite different than the other people in the gym. It's funny to see these huge men hefting gigantic barbells, grunting, slamming things around, etc. The image that flies into my mind is MEAT, MEAT, MEAT, but I don't eat meat... Am I discharging meat from deep in my body? Or perhaps do I have some corresponding extreme yin and if so, what is it??? If I am lifting weights, does that keep me from being more spiritual? You're right about taking the good from what our respected teachers say and discarding the parts that don't personally make sense. I also forget that knowing how knowledgeable someone like my teacher is or someone like Denny Waxman... But they are just people like everyone esle. Everything always is best taken in perspective. Thanks for helping me with that. > > > Ilanit, > > > > I've thought a lot about what Denny Waxman wrote in that newsletter. > > > that is good. never accept anything blindly - you gotta run it past your > internal intution > > > > > It kind of bugged me....kind of offended me! > > > if something offends you - then look within! what is it triggering > > > My thoughts here are not > > a criticism of your message, > > none taken. Guest guest
i'm following this thread and haven't found the original article that was mentioned, but i was very surprised that someone (danny?) would be saying exercise is not necessary. i have a lot of thoughts floating around in my head, and not alot of facts to back them up, but here goes. it's my understanding that people of today are way less active than prehistoric man and that our bodies are meant for more exercise. i feel 100% better if i'm exercising (and so does anyone i've ever discussed this with, exercisers and non-exercisers.) even if my eating isn't stellar, the exercise has a huge impace on my mental and physical health. i understand that exercise (and eating habits) can be taken to unhealthy extremes, but it seems the benefits of exercise outweigh the negatives. also, if you guys are exercising, you are going to be more hungry and you should eat a bit more. i think if you feel good you shouldn't be stressing about "eating too much" which i'm guessing for a macrobiotic would be too much brown rice? too many veggies? i'm very interested to hear what sonia has to say about this topic, she is a personal trainer, right? off to boxing class, sarahleslieanneashburn wrote: Hi Ilanit,Yes, I saw my name on his newsletter! Guest guest
After nursing 3 children, um, quite a long time, my eating is out of control. Although at one point it was warranted, now, it's habit. 80% is hard for me. Heck, 100% is hard for me. I ate so much while nursing that it's a habit. Now that my child bearing/nursing days are over, I have to take a new approach. I feel better when I eat to 80%, but out of habit, I eat more without thinking most days. Reggie...did Marlie wean? I remember commiserating with you about the endless nursing when Finn and Marlie were about 2.5 yo. Finn weaned right before 3 yo (yeah!). I can't believe they will both be 4 this summer.
