Madeline,Do let us know how the Aqua Therapy works for you. One of my doctors has suggested that for me, but they seem to be hesitant. It would be good for my muscles, joints and bones. It should also help with the effects of my neuropathy. My Rheumatologist, however, would only say yes to it if I can find someone who will work with me to do the aquatic exercises at home. Since I am on Prednisone and Chemotherapy, my immune system is really down. I cannot enroll in the aqua therapy and be in a sort of public pool or tub. I'd really be interested in how the aqua therapy works for you.

I am in Pulmonary Therapy two days a week, and I haven't had

improvement in my PFT's either. Although, I have been told by 2 of my

dcs that that is not unusual. The goal is to strengthen the muscles

surrounding the lungs and improve overall muscle strength. Thereby

improving quality of life (i.e. walking through the store) and helping

the lungs to cope and recover from an asthma exacerbation. At the

beginning of March I will be starting Aqua Therapy to try to help with

the movement and muscle issues from the Cushings. I'll let you know

how that works. Although, I am sure I will love it. I love the water

and love to swim. If nothing else, it gets me out of my house and in

more contact with people! I'm sure you all can tell how shy I am. ROFL!

My cardiac and pulmonary are integrated. I used to do the pulmonary twice and cardiac once per week with a group. Now, my doctor has me on a special class where they have integrated the exercises. Well, it's not really a class -- since I don't have classmates. Hahahaha! I used to go with a group, but everyone thought it was funny. Everyone was either a stroke or heart attack survivor or older people (in the 60's and above -- a few in the late 50's) with COPD (e.g. emphysema). I was the only teen. Of course now I am 22.

My therapists have me on just the very light program. They also do not force me to do anything or push myself. I only go as I can tolerate. Towards the end of 2004 to early 2005, I was already able to progress. I made such good improvements and was able to tolerate exercises that were a little heavier. In May 2005, I crashed with a really horrible asthma exacerbation and other illnesses. I was put on a ventilator for several weeks. After that, I had to start all over again. I have not fully recovered from it. I have yet to work my way up on the therapies.

I meant to ask how you handle the Cardiac therapy. The cardiac class

is starting just as our pulmo class is ending. They are very aerobic.

I don't think I could get through the warm up.
