Guest guest
HB 880 has been filed by Rep. Delisi which I believe is in the Temple area. This bill wants to do the following: 1.)require student code of conduct to be posted. (not a bad idea) 2.)state circumstances under which a student can be removed from the classroom, suspended, expelled, or placed in an ALC. 3. ) and make it Ok to use verbal discipline, isolate students w/in the classroom, use " physically harmless props in discipline " , or anything not specified in the bill which does not qualify as corporal punishment but that is intended to maintain decorum, discipline and order in the classroom. This is REALLY SCARY! This opens the door for little isolation boxes to be built in spec ed classes and to use mechanical restraints...and what on earth is a " physically harmless prop " ??? are we going back to Dunce caps or signs that say, " I am a stupid kid " . Please, let's not let this go by! This impacts every kid, not just special education. The bills' author is Diane White Delisi: Rep Diane White Delisi's office : 512/463-0630 (call and state your strong opposition) Rep. Sadler - Public Education Committee chair - 512/463-0626 . Please call and state your opposition and ask him to vote against this bill. http://www.capitol.state.tx.us/cgi-bin/tlo/textframe.cmd?LEG=77 & SESS=R & CHAMB ER=H & BILLTYPE=B & BILLSUFFIX=00880 & VERSION=1 & TYPE=B
