Guest guest
Hi Lola, My kids have probably had 100 sessions of eeg biofeedback (also called nuerotherapy). We were pleased with results and ended up buying a home machine (about $1,000) so we could train at home under the guidance of our therapist. You do need to be patient with biofeedback. It will probably take a while for your pracitioner to find the optimal settings. And sometimes things get worse before they get better. Here were our results: My 8 year old son diagnosed ADHD - got him completely off stimulant medication while on biofeedback. Biofeedback helped to calm him down and it significantly improved his handwriting in terms of clarity and fewer letter reversals. My 11 year old son diagnosed with inattentive ADD - biofeedback definitely improved his energy level, which was my greatest concern for he was kind of a couch potato prior to treatment. On biofeedback, he became much more active - which was great! But I we still haven't conquered his focus and organization issues yet. My husband used biofeedback for " peak performance " at work. He has a very stressful job and sometimes has a hard time sleeping through the night. When this happens, I " brain train " him at home and he sleeps like a baby thereafter. I tried biofeedback for migraine. The practioner didn't get the settings right on the first go round and I had trouble remembering anything, much less finding my car in the parking lot! The second session went much better.........but I stopped after 5 sessions because I didn't have time to continue. Bottom line - I really believe that biofeedback works, but you need to find a GOOD practioner and be patient with it. A good book is ADD: The 20 hour solution by Sigfried Othmer. (But honestly, I think ADD probably takes more like 40-70hours) Good luck, Debbie > > Hi group > we are staring bio feedback on the 3rd , and I was just wondering if > anyone had tried it, what was the out come. > for my son we are doing 10 sessions only and see how it goes from > there. > > Lola >
Guest guest
Hi from Sue, I agree with Debbie that biofeedback definitely has some good effects. --But not for all as is the case with most treatments. We had the privilege of getting our original sessions with Siegfried Othmer in the early 90's-- (the who wrote that book)... for my children who are now 25 & 21yrs. Then in Sacramento, Biofeedback helped my older son's learning ability in school but we were not able to eliminate meds by using biofeedback. ( He has bipolar, static hydrocephalus, mild TS, mild CP, LD's, and ADHD. & his birth mom had taken cocaine in her first trimester of pregnancy with him in utero) . My biological younger son and I both developed headaches after each session. My oldest went twice a week for 6 months -- and again saw gains in school work. I asked Siegfried Othmer to present at one of our CHADD conference's exhibitions -when I was president from 1989-95. Wonderful couple.... but sad to know that his son (who originally benefited from his experimental work on biofeedback) was able to reduce his Dilatin (I believe?) due to biofeedback...yet he died in his sleep in a college dorm from a seizure. I think that happened in the eighties..
