Guest guest
Yes women do have PSSD just as bad as men and it is horrible. Men (me being one) often think women can just sit there and take it and its no problem, but just like us you experience the loss of romantic feelings and sexual attraction. It is horrible, and we still know very little about it. For a select few this is something that improves over years, but for others it is something that doesnt change. I am 23 (almost 24) and enjoyed good sex up to age 21. Seems like a distant memory now :-/ > > we read alot about erectile dysfunction and other PSSD symptoms that are specific for men.. but women have PSSD too and it's just as horrible. > > I'm 19 and I've had PSSD for 3 years, I have a few questions. > > 1. is it possible to become pregnant with pssd? or carry a healthy baby? > > 2. Guest guest
I think it is very likely that you can carry a healthy baby and have a normal conception, despite your PSSD. > > we read alot about erectile dysfunction and other PSSD symptoms that are specific for men.. but women have PSSD too and it's just as horrible. > > I'm 19 and I've had PSSD for 3 years, I have a few questions. > > 1. is it possible to become pregnant with pssd? or carry a healthy baby? Guest guest
Hi, Goldy. Sorry to hear about you being affected by this. It is a nasty effect of these drugs. Of course your therapist and psychiatrist refuse any responsibility. That's what they are trained to do, apparently. Or at least that seems to be pretty much everyone's experience on this forum. Maybe they just haven't heard of the issue. Who knows. Who cares. Don't believe they are better than you. They are ignorant, or in denial, or deceitful. In any case they are obviously not going to be much help to you. If you wish, you can try to find a psychologist (not psychiatrist) who will understand and work with you. Is there hope? Yes, especially for you. You are still young and your body and brain have plenty of time and energy to heal. The fact that you stopped smoking is a fantastic thing. That would have really hindered the healing process and likely caused a lot of other issues. That feeling of emotional flatness you are experiencing is one of the possible effects of PSSD. The good news is that there are people who have been posting on here that they slowly get better over time. I cannot speak to the female-specific issues you mention, but I'm sure a number of the women who post on here will give you some advice there. From what I've read on here and other sites, the key to recovery seems to be: get lots of exercise, eat healthy foods, establish positive and rewarding relationships, stay off of all drugs. There are many people on here trying new drugs or going back on their previous medications in an attempt to jump-start their libido and sexual functioning again. But I have not heard of any of these " medication methods " achieving long-lasting results. Is there anyone you can email/text? First of all, you can continue to post here. A lot of the people here are very supportive. If you wish to chat with someone directly (I would guess another woman), then there may be someone here who would be willing to do so. Good luck, and don't give up hope. All of us here know how hard this is, and how much it sucks, but you can recover. Treat yourself well and find supportive relationships. > > we read alot about erectile dysfunction and other PSSD symptoms that are specific for men.. but women have PSSD too and it's just as horrible. > > I'm 19 and I've had PSSD for 3 years, I have a few questions. > > 1. is it possible to become pregnant with pssd? or carry a healthy baby? > > 2. Guest guest
The emotional flatness you are feeling is absolutely part of the PSSD. It is called anhedonia--lack of pleasure or the capacity to experience it. It flattens your feelings and makes you feel a lack of motivation. It is very likely due to the SSRIs messing up our dopamine which is our " pleasure center " . I have had PSSD for 2 1/2 years and only started overcoming this in the past 5 months. As for pregnancy and your menstral cycle, I strongly recommend you have your hormone levels checked. Stopping the SSRIs put my hormones into a free fall and now I have to take bio-identical hormones and thyroid hormones to make up for the deficiency. Now that I do, however, my cycle is back to normal. If your hormones are OK you should still be OK with getting pregnant. Yours might not end up as out of whack as mine since I am in my early 40's and that alone contributes to mine being low. Hang in there. There is definitely hope. The MDs you are dealing with aren't familiar with PSSD so they just assume it is in your head. If they refuse to take you seriously you will likely need to look elsewhere for help on this issue. There are other Drs. out there that will listen. The Dr. I see for my hormones is an MD who practiced OB/GYN for 35 years. She's the first one to tell me that the majority of other OB/GYNs out there are in the pharmaceutical companies trance. You just need to keep looking for one, like her, who is willing to think and treat outside the box. Guest guest
I had 3 very healthy pregnancies/deliveries in spite of having major sexual dysfunction due to birth control use and anti depressant use. Then I had my 4th very healthy pregnancy/delivery while suffering severe PSSD (had been off all anti depressants/birth control for 1 1/2 years at that point and had genital anesthesia due to lexapro for that length of time as well). Most interestingly, with my fourth, while in labor I felt the intense pain with contractions (same as my other 3 pregnacies), but when the baby passed through the birth canal, I experienced no pain. NONE!! Compare this with natural child birth pain that I experienced with my second delivery - it was the most excruciating pain I have ever experienced. I bet that if your cycles were normal before, and they are not now, then it is a result of the PSSD. Another physical problem I have that I think is a result of PSSD is urinary incontinence issues. I am still researching this. I also experienced emotional flatness since fall 2007 which is just starting to go away. I strongly believe that my brain is trying to go back to " normal " as a result of taking fish oil supplements. I'm taking 4 1000 mg pills/ day. I felt so alone too, until I finally found this group. Feel free to chat/email me. Same with any other women on here. I am 43 years old, married 17 years, 4 kids, and no longer embarrassed about my condition. I just want answers, and I want to get better. And yes, there is hope. Don't give up!!!! You are lucky that you are young and know the truth about anti depressants and sexual dysfunction. > > we read alot about erectile dysfunction and other PSSD symptoms that are specific for men.. but women have PSSD too and it's just as horrible. > > I'm 19 and I've had PSSD for 3 years, I have a few questions. > > 1. is it possible to become pregnant with pssd? or carry a healthy baby? > > 2. Guest guest
I have urinary problems because I am unable to feel when I have to go until I have quite a bit of pressure in my abdomen. Sometimes it's too late and I ache after urinating, for hours, sometimes days, or weeks. I have had many urinary infections because of this. I also wear a pad when I'm at work so that I don't have accidents when I sneeze or cough (Heaven help me if I throw up! Then the pads don't work at all.). I have had this problem, as well as zero libido, for more than 27 yrs. Guest guest
Thank you, but I don't think so. It is caused by the build up of pressure because I can't feel when I need to urinate. Guest guest
Hi Goldy, There were several women in the group for a while. They had/have a lot to say about this. I'm not sure how many women still post here now. But you are not alone. The therapist/psychiatrist response that you get is standard fare in the business. I can tell you this, the more you hope/ask them to help, the more fustrated and hurt you get. I suggest you find a non-establishment for support. I do not have all the answers you are looking for about pregnancy and such. But I do want to say that since you are young, if you get on track to a healthy lifestyle, including a lot of cardio like running or biking, you have a fair chance of recovering. Not all recovery is the same for those who do recover from this. To date, there are no studies on humans on the long term effects of these drugs. So the 'professionals' just lie and say that the effects are only temporary, when they really have nothing to qualify that claim. The fish oil suppliments are a good idea. I'm not a women, so I understand if you don't want to chat with me. But, welcome to the group, learn as much as you can. Always be skepticle in terms of distinguishing facts from theory's is the best advise I can give. Hang in there. > > > > we read alot about erectile dysfunction and other PSSD symptoms that are specific for men.. but women have PSSD too and it's just as horrible. > > > > I'm 19 and I've had PSSD for 3 years, I have a few questions. > > > > 1. is it possible to become pregnant with pssd? or carry a healthy baby? > > > > 2. Guest guest
Hi North, What kind of urinary issues does causticum help with? My suspected issue: can not feel my pc muscle, thus i can not figure out how to stop the flow of urine once it starts. I think this is key to my other issue of orgasms that don't feel like much of anything. Do you think it would help? Thanks! > > > > > > > > > > > > I have urinary problems because I am unable to feel when I have to go until I have quite a bit of pressure in my abdomen. Guest guest
In answer to your question, North4, yes, I do know what homeopathy is. It took me a while, though, to google a site that tells what causticum is: http://www.homeremedycentral.com/en/homeopathic-remedies/homeopathy/causticum.ht\ ml Since I think my urinary proble is due to nerve damage and lack of feeling, I very much doubt that causticum would cure it. However, I have found that cranberry juice and, as of late, cinnamon, seem to be very helpful in healing urinary infections. My physician's assistant warned me years ago that antibiotics could be damaging, as I had been using them frequently at the time.
