Guest guest
I may be way off (been known to be before) but I don't think it's a reflux thing, it could be a red flag symptom of brainstem compression. I.E. swallowing issues. I have this almost all the time now, where my food just doesn't go down my throat very well or fast...and often the last bite seems to stay right at the top of the gullet and at times, it has slipped back into my mouth. I find this really strange because one would think that your gag reflex would be in full force with something like this happening, so I self tested my gag reflex and I don't have any. I guess my question would be, does he have the " throw up " action of heaving? or does the food just slip back into his mouth (like mine does?) If he is heaving, this is very bad for people with Chiari and instability etc...valsalva manuevers cause bad flare ups... I want to ask Dr. B about this for myself, if this is something I need to look into with a neuro specialist, or should I just be careful until I get my fusion (in a year or so)... I want to post this to the group because I'd be VERY interested to hear if anyone else also has this symptom where food comes back into the mouth without gagging or heaving... thanks Virginia > > (Sorry in advance to be graphic.) > > My son has complained that he frequently " throws up into his mouth " > all of sudden - no warning, no nausea. Guest guest
Yup, me too. I also have thrown up into my mouth without vomiting although I suffer from daily nausea too. It sometimes seems to slip back up like you described without any heaving. I also have many other symptoms of brainstem compression and have some minor swallowing difficulties so this is interesting to hear that others experience similiar symptoms.
