My thyroid is messed up. I guess from the steroids. It is really inconsistent though. It will be extremely hyperactive for a while and then go back to normal. Then go overactive and normal. It makes it frustrating because they can't do anything to treat it. They said eventually it will just wear out from all the extra work and then I'll go on thyroid medication.

As far as the diabetes medication that sounds weird to me. Unless she suspects that you are having highs that you are missing on your tests. How often do you check your glucose? Did you have an A1c done? That would let you know if your levels are staying as even as you think they are.

I do have to say that I am way hecka jealous that you can take Lasix! It was great when I could take it but now I just have to deal with the severe edema. Drs are completely out of ideas about what I can take to combat it. And I am sure my kidneys are not happy about it at all!

Hi all. I saw my endocronologist this morning to talk about my creatinine levels and my thyroid levels. I had misunderstood the readings on the thyroid. It seems the lower the number on the thyroid means the thyroid is overactive and overproducing rather than underproducing. Confusing. Kind of like steel gauges! The smaller the number the thicker the steel. Anyway, we aren't going to do anything at all about the kidneys at this point. Just extra fluid, take the Lasix, and bloodwork weekly to keep an eye on them. They are having a little trouble keeping up, but not critical. She is also doubling the dosage on my metformin (for the steroid induced diabetes) even though with the dosage I am on now my glucose levels rarely go above the thresholds that were set for me. If they do I have to take another pill called glipizide to bring them back down. I have taken two

glipizide pills in the last month and a half. Seems to me my metformin dosage is just fine. She tried to explain that we have to stay ahead of the curve. She seems to think that I am going to start having more trouble with my sugar levels. I don't know. I am a bit confused. Also, she also indicated that she thinks the thyroid levels are not really thyroid related at all. She thinks that especially with the increase of some of my Cushing's symptoms lately (the sweating in particular) that the steroids may be suppressing the hormones from my ovaries which in turn are affecting the thyroid. She has ordered bloodwork for that as well. Have any of you ever dealt with any of this or heard anything like this before? I know she is the specialist, but I am a bit confused. It seems to be a little contradictory. Especially the part about increasing my diabetes meds when they

are controlling my levels well. Okay gotta stop. Getting a headache. LOL :) Madeline

Yes. I am very lucky. All of this is being covered under workers

comp, and I have a wonderful husband and strong support base at home.

My parents are right next door. Mixed blessing there! ROFL! I also

have a wonderful group of ladies from my church who keep tabs on me

and a cousin and one other very good friend locally. Things over all

are fairly good for me. At this point, I am totally disabled. Pretty

much useless. I can do a load of laundry here or there, but I have a

hard time with anything more physical than that most days. Although,

I am doing pulmonary therapy twice a week and that has made a huge

difference. We are also going to start aqua therapy hopefully on

March 1. That will help with the bone and movement issues from the

Cushings. Yes be very very careful with steroids. As I said there is

really no other choice for me right now, but question the docs very

hard if they ever try to put you on a maintenance dose.

Oh how well do I know that feeling! Major aggression and totally

irrational anger for absolutely no reason sometimes. I think that if

I could just beat the crap out of someone from time to time I would

feel much better. The only problem with that is that people tend to

hit back. ROFL! I think I may look into buying one of those punching

bags that you can get at the toystore for the kiddos. Wonder if that

would help?
