Guest guest
- Welcome to our list - we are glad to have you here....... I have a 7 year old non-verbal boy with Autism and severe developmental delays...... Fortunately for us - we do not as of yet (let's keep it that way dear Lord!!!) have severe behavior/aggressive problems. But - I have many many internet friends and listmates who do. What seems to be the most posted about behavior/aggression modifying medication is Risperdal. Many parents have had good comments with this medication. It takes a few weeks for the effects - but they report great results.. I think it is horrid and shameful that you are not getting the help you need throught the state and other organizations designed to help. I plan on going to the Capitol Day in Austin March 1st as well as write my Legislatures again - on all these issues..... Hopefully if we all stay united and share information - we can accomplish much needed changes for our children. I would just love to see the day when all us parents who have been made to go without help - bring our children to Austin in front of all the legislatures and say, " These are the children whose parents were denied funding, these are the children who didn't qualify for services because of parents supposedly high income, here are the children who couldn't get emergency behavior intervention because the residential centers were full, and here are the adults who slipped through the cracks because they were on a waiting list for help for 7 years.......... " I would love to highlight to them what could be- for our children- if we built treatment centers and training centers and had more funding; instead of having to show them what is - because bigger and better astrodomes and arenas are built and funded instead........ *** Another internet disussion list that I am listowner of is Autism-Awareness-Action --- over 650 members in this list who are great at sharing and helping - that is the list where I know of members with children around your child's age with the behavior/aggression issues..... you might consider posting your story there - those ladies and gentlemen are great at responding and offering what worked for them. The link for that group is http://groups.yahoo.com/group/autism-awareness-action I am hoping that this Texas list can grow and there will be more parents and organizations involved to be a better resource connection for parents here in Texas...... Guest guest
, Welcome to the list. I'd recommend Dr. Glenn Hansen in Bedford to test the gut issues and also run a test for metals toxicity. Aggression and the other challenges you mentioned are often seen more in metals toxic kids. Dr. Ann Block of the Block Center in Hurst is also good for gut, metabolic and allergy issues but not as up on metals tox. Gaylen
