Guest guest
Hello: It came to my attention on another board that someone with CM was turned down for life insurance. Since I am an insurance agent, I was curious. I know some companies will write policies on some conditions while others will not. Take my dh for example. I worked for 1 co. who declined him due to his weight and sleep apnea. When I opened my own agency for another co. I tried again. They took him. Granted I pay much more than if he were healthy, but at least I have some life insurance on him. When this came up about CM/SM, I called my underwriter. He said if you have not had surgery and have symptoms, they will decline you. If you have had surgery and it has been a year and you have no symptoms or only some symptoms they will issue it but they will rate it. This means you pay more. If you have SM and your progression is slow, they will issue it with a rating, if your progression is fast, ie: wheelchair bound, then you would be declined. If you want life insurance, you should not just assume no one will take you. Many cos. look at things differently. My dh is a case in point. You can be eligible in a group plan thru your job or spouses job where there is no underwriting. There are also some " high risk " insurer's that take all kinds of diseases, even cancer and aids. I just wanted people who were thinking about this to know it is not a lost cause. Feel free to pm me if you have any questions.
