Guest guest
Hi Debbie, The article I read was independent research conducted by "naturopathic doctors". It's doubtful that your endo would find this acceptable. Authoritative references include: NEJM February 11, 1999 or The Int'l Journal of Neuropsychopharmacology 2000, 3: 167-174 "Replacing T4 with triiodothyronine (T3) improves cognition and mood in hypothyroidism". Cambridge Scientific Abstracts (CSA.com) thyroid overview. And he may find it interesting to know about current clinical research at town University - Dr. ph Verbalis; Endocrinology Chief and Professor. The research; "Optimization of thyroid hormone replacement" includes treatment options. Debbie, my advice to you (and others) stuck with doctors that have a one-size-fits-all mentality... is to visit your friendly pharmacist(s). Ask them if they sell Armour and/or Cytomel. When they reply "yes"... ask them for the names of two or three doctors that prescribe it. They can search their database - just as they would if a drug was recalled. It is important to do this IN PERSON, and on a slow day/slow time of day. If the pharmacist is too busy to help, larger chains (like Walgreens, Eckerd, Rite-Aid, etc.) have Chief Pharmacists at their district office. Ask for his name and telephone number - then call - for help. Be sure to request the names of a *few* doctors. Best Wishes To You, Genie Debbie wrote: Hi Genie: I have a question for you about something you mentioned in this post to Kathy regarding a recent study about Armour. Can I ask you please where did you find that information? My last appt. w/the endo I asked him about adding some T3 to my treatment and he gave me this long story about there's not enough evidence nor has there been any significant studies done on the effectiveness of adding T3 to hypo patients. He also said that the study that was conducted only proved that the addition of a T3 only benefited patients psychologically and didn't help with the other symptoms/problems for people with hypothyroidism. I guess you know that I am not happy with endo #2 and am starting my search for endo #4.
