Rhonda,

I don't know how much I can help you because I don't have Medicaid for my

son yet. The way I understand that it works is that Medicaid would pick up

what your insurance won't cover IF the provider you are using files

Medicaid. This may be the hangup for you - my son's OT doesn't participate

with Medicaid, we would have to switch providers to use that funding.

Perhaps when HB 565 becomes effective (it's law on July 1, but might not

kick in until insurance contracts are renegotiatied next calendar year) you

might get your insurance to cover it. HB 565 makes it law that insurance

companies in Georgia cover treatments for autism as they would for other

neurological disorders. Good luck - maybe someone else out there can be of

more help.

Texas is awful, the worst place to live for special ed services. The state

does not pay for ABA, AIT.

The respite care funds are also through MHMR and in addition to the 3600.00 In

Home Family Support funds. These are 2 separate services provided by MHMR.

Did I understand correctly that this respite care is in addition to the $3600

per year through In Home and Family Support or is it part of it? Or is it

from another agency?

Hello, I'm VERY new to this and want to find the best resources for my 2 yr old

son. Can someone please help me be telling me what all these letters stand for?

I live in Denton County, so if anyone is familiar with the process for getting

into any programs here I would greatly appreciate it.

I've been told that there are two children in Lubbock receiving ABA, but

both parents are attorneys. Seems like that's what you need to get anything

more than 30 minutes per week of speech and once a week OT. At least,

that's how it is here in west Texas.

The $3600 of 1154 funding that a spoke of has a waiting list in Lubbock

County. Don't think it's much over a year wait though. There is also

" Non-Ed " funding available through the Educational Service Centers (TEA),

but have no idea who to contact or what it's for, just heard it in passing

at a workshop.

Don't know anyone in Austin, but if you want to travel to Corpus Christi, I

do know of a Pediatric Neurologist there who will write you a script for ABA.

Not that it will do you any good, but if you find a way for it to help,

please let us all know.

Let me know if anyone wants the name of that Doc.

I thought that was called MDCP and was through the Department of Health? I

have never heard of MRLA. Anyone have any luck getting it for an autistic

child? My son is on MDCP waiting list, but I have heard that it is mostly

for children who need nursing care and that they usually will not give it to

autistic children without an additional medical diagnosis. Anyone know

different?

Thanks,

Tammie,

Where are you from? ABA or AIT paid for?! Ha! I have never found a doctor in

Texas that I didn't have to train myself on autism. I was told by my ped.

neurologist to talk to other parents that he had no advice to give me. The

schools like TEACH and if it does not suit you or your child you have no

other alternatives other than private school or home school. Scary isn't it.

That's why we are here, trying to make it better for all the children to

come. Want to join our crusade??? Sherman Round Rock

MRLA:this is a medicade waiver program that only considers the child's

income, which should be zero, and then they get medicade and a lot of other

support services such as therapies, attendant care, respite, etc.

Noned funds must be requested by the district, Some districts don't want to

hassle with it, but they should apply for it. It is there to deliver

respite and in home training to kids with autism. Demand it.

MRLA is just another name for HCS in some counties that are doing a

pilot program. In order to qualify for HCS, the individual must have

mental retardation as a primary diagnosis, but can certainly have

autism also. It is mostly for group home placement, but also pays

for attendant care and some therapies. I've heard CLASS is better

for therapy, but does not pay for group home placements, MRLA/HCS is

needed for group home placement, but does not pay as well for

therapies. We have been on the CLASS list for about 7 years and have

not made it on. I doubt my son will qualify for MRLA/HCS as we have

documented IQ's in the normal range, but we were encouraged to get on

the list by MHMR anyway. Jill

Another example of how MHMR varies from county to county. We were just

approved for the $3600.00, but were told that the ABA training and the

respite we requested would have to come out of this total amount. It's in

Grayson County. I would love to get more, but after reading some of the

posts regarding this, I'm feeling pretty lucky with this :o)

get a letter to MHMR on insurance denial for ABA, without screwing

everything up!)

This is correct. The child must be at risk for residential placement. Some

school districts sign off readily for these funds while some will not for

fear of having to pay the cost for the residential placement.

You don't have to say that your child is at risk for institutionalization,

the district should just realize that the funds are for kids with autism.

We would never have our son live anywhere but home, but these funds are to

make his life easier in the community. That is really what at risk means.

At risk of not living in the community as independently without the help of

the respite and in home training.

I think we make to much money. Or, does it go buy Matt's income? Trina

It is based on the child's income therefore it is a Medicade waiver program

and your child can receive Medicade and the other services based on his

income alone

Hello everyone, just a note regarding the tutor who just posted concerning

her move back to Atlanta in June. Amy is a great tutor and has worked

for us for about 3yrs. She has tutored our child using Lovaas and

Partington/Sundberg verbal behavior, she presently does our consulting and

shadows our child in a regular school. She is by far, the best tutor we have

ever had! You may email us privately for further info . We will miss her,

but wish her well... whoever gets her will be very very lucky. and

has any one tried face fillers - Perlane or Restylane or implants. how long did it last.

These two options do not last very long (may be 4-6 weeks) and are not recommended, unless you have a very mild case of facial wasting and do not mind paying the fee every two months or so. Go to www.facialwasting.org for more info.
