The question is what IS exercise? To me it includes getting dressed making my

own breakfast and lunch and usually cooking dinner and with a significant amount

of help having a shower! This to me is exercise just movement. Due to other

disabilities I am in a wheelchair pushing it around all day yes its a manual one

and it sucks is definately exercise. If I am able I try to do some stretches but

only one or two reps not heaps. Once a week I usually go to hydro in a tyre for

5 mins or less anymore and I am sick for the next week until the next session

and 5 mins makes me sleep after for 3 hours. You basically have to listen to

your body its particularly the case with CFS I also have FM and people with FM

tend to usually be able to do more exercise this is not always the case just

often.

Ok but my question is how can I get stronger If I don't push myself? But I

definately don't want a relapse. I don't think I could do much less than I am

doing now. It takes all I have to get from the bed to the couch

If you are already exhausted just by your daily activities then no way should

you be going to the gym! You need to pace yourself and do little and often

rather than travel to a gym and have a session!

Do be very careful!

In order to be able to watch my 3 yo grandtwins from 11:30 am thru 3 pm I have

to have slept around 11 to 12 hrs.  When my husband returns with the 3 older

boys from school, I will return home and go to bed, getting up later to eat,

watch TV and do email.  Then I go to bed to get ready for the next day.

On Saturdays when my daughter is on call, I will watch twins at home from 2pm

thru   bedtime.  My husband has the older boys over at our apt. until 9 pm

when she goes off call.  When I go to bed on Saturdays, I do not get up until

possibly 5-6 pm on Sunday.  My goal is to be able to go to Church on Sunday

morning but Saturdays usually make me crash.

At home, I always have food to eat, salad at lunchtime, a meal at dinner time,

and whatever snacks etc, that I like to eat are always available.  I always

have clean clothes, and the dishes are always done, the house is usually picked

up, (except for the living room where we have toys for the grandkids !).

I guess I only get out of the house to go to my daughter's house and doctor's

appointments.  But since I am always sleeping or at my daughter's house, I

don't really miss it.  My " social life " is online , in groups like these and

others.  I also try to keep up with the latest medical advances for CFS /ME.

After 15 years of pacing and going thru the challenges that life likes to throw

at you, this is what I am doing at the moment.

The only exercise I get is from walking around my apartment, my daughter's house

is split level but most of it is on the upper level.  I had been lifting Lexi

and , but they have gotten too heavy and old enough not to need it as

much.

Sorry this got so long, but it is an idea of how one can cope with this DD.  I

could not do this if I did not have my pain under control.  Right now I don't

have any problems with sleeping, I do take a muscle relaxer at bedtime, but the

sleep is obviously not good enough or I wouldn't be able to sleep so much!

Jayne that actually sounds like a good idea because I ussually go into the store

and am exhasted for days.

I sometimes go to the store with my husband just to get out of the house, but

instead of walking around with him I sit in the car or on the bench by the

entrance, watching the people. Much less draining than going into the store

where I am exposed to all the noises, lights, chemical smells on top of the

standing/walking.
