Guest guest
This virus is a scam. The file listed is a needed file, and if you erase it, you screw yourself bigtime, which is the whole reason someone sent this out. rochester@...~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*Click here for the best diet and nutrition information you will ever find!www.westonaprice.org~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*"Whenever is found what is called a paternal government, there is found state education. Guest guest
A message was posted to another list that said he had copied the file to a floppy before he deleted it. And he had had no problems, so far. I can't help you any more than that as I'm running Windows 2000 and it does not have the file in question. The moral of the story is DO NOT believe every message that mentions " virus " that shows up in your inbox. The most damage these messages do is clog up the internet provider's servers when everyone rushes to send a copy to everyone in their address book. Or, like this one, causes a person to damage their own computer. The only thing a person should do when a " virus " message is received is to check with the major virus checking companies and see if they any information on it. Do not, ever, send it on to anyone. Guest guest
This email message is a hoax, there is no virus. Its kind of like a chain letter. Most if not all viruses have a signature in them even if they are not activated (hanging around until someones birthday, or some other date) which all anti-virus software scan for. Best protection is not to open any attachment without first updating your virus DAT files for the latest bugs the little script kiddies are writing these days. BTW, you might not want to delete this file because it is a Microsoft Windows utility that is used to restore long file names. You can read more about it at http://www.norton.ch/avcenter/venc/data/sulfnbk.exe.warning.html or you can subscribe to a CERT newsletter which sends alerts about "real" problems at www.cert.org On Wed, 30 May 2001 09:14:00 -0700 blusky <blusky@...> writes: > Sorry, but I feel I must share this info as I did find this file on my PC > when I checked also......anybody else know anything more about > this???!!!!???? blusky > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: Côté <richardcote.com@...> > Sent: Tuesday, May 29, 2001 12:06 PM > Subject: Virus Alert > > > > URGENT. Guest guest
The file that you might have deleted is for converting short file names to long file names (and I think vice versa). If you reinstall Windows (which should preserve all settings, etc.) missing files should be replaced and you should be fine. -=mark=- At 02:07 PM 5/30/2001 EDT, you wrote: >Great I guess I'm screwed.
