Guest guest
Hi Folks, a friend of mine is looking for thoughts on the below. If any of you have any thoughts idea I offered to forward onto her. It is an emotional time right now as she is experiencing another miscarriage. Thanks! -Cat > I am starting to get worried that I may have a thyroid condition, but> I'm not sure what to do about it. A brief recap on me: EP surgery (but saved> tube) January 2008, missed miscarriage November 2008, still actively> miscarrying blighted ovum now. As a result of this most recent miscarriage,> my ob-gyn ordered several tests to try and find out what might be causing> these recurrent pregnancy losses. When I talked to the nurse the other day,> she said my TSH level was borderline high-- it was 4.83 with the normal> range they're looking for being .35 to 4.94-- and they ordered a complete> thyroid panel at that time. I just talked with the nurse again and she said> the thyroid panel was normal and they aren't concerned at this time with the> TSH level.. In the meantime, I've since found out that I have a pretty> significant family history of thyroid disorder (my father, almost all my> grandparents, etc.) and I was really hoping this might help point to a cause> for all my losses. The more I read online, it says they've changed the> guidelines for "normal" TSH levels to .3-3.0, which I am clearly above at> 4.83. And even more sources say that for a healthy pregnancy, it is best for> the TSH to be between 1-2, which I am way above. So should I be concerned> even though the rest of the thyroid panel (T3, T4, etc.) did check out> "normal"? I remembered several women in this group before discussing thyroid> conditions and really need advice. I really do like my ob-gyn, but do I need> to search out a specialist who might treat this? I live in a fairly small> town, so would have to drive to a bigger city to see someone-- I just want> to make sure it's worth all the trouble before I make a big deal out of it. > Any advice from someone with experience with this would be greatly> appreciated!
