Dear Brigette,

Fatigue is a very complex problem. It can have lots of causes, as you

probably know.

One thing that doctors might overlook is that fatigue is often caused

by depression. Having non stop lumps is indeed a depressing situation.

Do you think the fatigue might be tied in with depression? From my own

experience I know that depression can really exhaust me. And

depression can be overcome! I used to suffer with it terribly, but

haven't in about 20 years now. :-)

Love,

Thanks everyone for your help. I am managing with the kids at home.

Some times the fatigue is sooo overwhelming it can be painful. I then

have no choice but to lay down. The kids seem to understand and are

helpful. My husband is very understanding. I know it must be

frustrating for him. It is hard to plan things with me. Also, the

house is always a mess. Thanks again for all the advice.

First of all, hats off to you! I can barely manage this stuff now, and

my son is an adult. To have this while raising children seems beyond

belief.

When my son was little, I worked three jobs and went to grad school.

While that isn't anywhere near the burden you carry, there are some

overlapping similarities.

First, forget the clean house syndrome. No one's died from a messy

house (although dust might make our symptoms worse, so does the

exercise needed to clean it)

Second, forget three course meals. Some of this steam in a bag food is

a wonderful blessing - fairly nutritious and requiring minimal labor.

Third, I'm adding this from my son's perspective, just having a parent

watching kids play is as good as having a parent actively involved.

Like you said, kids understand - probably more than we realize.

The biggest help during those years was the all day care program. My

son loved it - lots of kids, field trips, fun - and I didn't lose a

step trying to keep up with him during the day.

Good luck with finding that which works for you. Just think, next year

you'll be able to help someone else that is in the same position.
