Guest guest
Hi Everyone My story is I have six kids four girls two boys ages 36 down to 14. I started out fourteen years ago being hypo. I was on a dose of levothyroxine 88 mgs. I went to another doctor who ran my labs and put me up to 100mgs. I was on that dose for almost a year. With only maybe two labs in that time. So I switched doctors again this time this doctor didn't do my labs like she should have! So this past Dec I started having trouble with my eyes. I'd wake up with eyelids the size of golfballs and swelling under my eye area. So I went to the doctor and she said maybe I was having an allergic reaction to something and put me on prednisone and gave me samples of celebrex, singular. So while I was on prednisone my swelling went away, as soon as I was off it my eyes swelled again so back I went. I asked her if it could be thyroid related she told me no! So back on the prednisone I went well same thing happened in the mean time I told her how tired I was to no avail. Also alot of heart palpations and almost blacking out just really depressed and brain fog. So she told me I needed a eye specialist which I went to see, first thing he said it's thyroid and he put me on prednisone at a higher dose well same story so, I was riding up and down at this point. I called went back in to see her again explained what eye doctor had said so she finally did my labs! I got a phone call from her telling me to stop thyroid meds I was getting way to much. I was back on the pred again and this time I had a bad reaction to it which sent me to the ER. I went through two weeks of pure hell.o So being fed up I switched doctors again. HE told me my thyroid was the size of strwberries. He did labs put me on ATD and beta blocker and I seen a Endo who wanted to do a RAI uptake scan. Yesterday I get a phone call results were back no scan my tsh was at 33 so now they have put me into serious hypo told me not to take anymore methimazole which I started at 15 then family doctor rasied it to 30 before my labs were back! Gosh what a story and am I ever confussed. Not sure what the heck thry are trying to do to me. Shirl sorry so long
Guest guest
My guess is they are looking at only the TSH and basing thier guesses on that. What you need is a full thyroid panel run including antibodies for both Grave's and for Hashimoto's. It would also be a good idea to get the TRAB antibodies broken down to TSI and TBII as TSI is the Grave's antibody responsible for hyper in Grave's and TBII is the blocking antibody and why some Grave's patients go hypo. To throw more fun into the mix it is possible to have both Grave's and Hashimoto's. What you need to do though is treat both diseases seperately. The eyes will calm down once the thyroid levels are stable.. but yo uneed FT4 and FT3 to judge the thyroid. That aside the eye disease will run its own course..
