US is the single largest polluter in the world.

But it has one fifth the population of India & it is four times the size of

India ( including Alaska)

The US has 52 National parks, a dynamic federal reforestation program.

Cutting trees is a planned process, where sapplings are planted for every tree

removed.

Every municipaliy has a ratio of built area to grass/tree knolls

Factories & such are zoned away from populated area. Emissions are monitored,

heavy fines levied with failures to comply with rules

Mines when exhausted are refilled & structurally redeveloped so as not to be an

eye sore.

Garbage disposal  & recycling is a science in itself

All this involves a great deal of political will & civic sense

so, finally our " Sarkar " is waking up and has made an effort to realize that

environment and emissions are an " issue " that needs to be dealt and this is

what they have come up with...

The heartening thing is that at least the govt has recognized that they need

to reduce the emissions by 2020.... but I feel that 20% as compared to 2005

is not enough.. because I feel that by 2020, the economy will grow further,

and there will be more cars on the streets....

Pollution is a major issue in major cities all over the country.. and I

think we as citizens need to commit to reducing waste and properly disposing

waste and reduce the emissions.. and we have to wake up before we have

regular acid rains in Mumbai, Delhi and all the metros

What do you guys think? It would be a neat thing to share some " global "

perspectives on going green from our friends on here who are in different

parts of the world.....

I think here " civic sense " is the key word.... and I know its hard to say

things like " There should be more civic sense in India " staying here in the

US, but then I think there will be a time when we all have to wake up to the

reality and accept responsibility and accountability for our actions.
