dear moderator - be kind!

To love truly is to ELECT to remain vulnerable.

victims haven't made that choice. it's a HUGE step!

love fr an ex-victim!

Dear Cloudhand, I have given up being a victim, I promise. As far as your being

annoyed at me, don't be. Some of us are just more fragile than others

emotionally,

and physically. Having stood around naked,I decided to put my clothes back on.

That

should be OK, I think . The rest of the list is dressed and I can function

pretty

well, on subjects I have no complexes to fight on. The only other alternative

would

have been to leave, but some of the people and subject interest me.and usually

I

am not one to slink off with my tail between my legs.

Knowing my limitations , becomes more important to me as I grow older.( I

realize I

am not the oldest here, but old enough.) I know how far I have yet to travel,

before

I gain some wisdom, but I will have to do it more slowly and definitely more

carefully .At the present " that's the best I can do with it "

Peace, Mike, in a hundred years this won't matter to either of us.

Well - I'm more than happy to take my clothes off any time - just don't ask

me to go without make-up!! LOL!

Dear fa,

Thanks for trying to straighten out this mess. Misreading and jumping to

conclusions seems to be the order of the day. I may have misread also.

Preaching to the choir sometimes sets my teeth on edge, as much as I do the

same, but in my old age I do get upset occasionally at other's anger

,prejudices, and jumping to conclusions. I obviously have done the same, many

times in my life.

love,

Toni

Me too! sorry Graham...but actually just a note to say that assuming

it is a virus...???, I've been deleting my daily digest as it

comes in without opening and just going on the list site to check

postings etc. Should we suspend our daily digests/individ. emails

until its sorted out???

Yes, we've had it too, but my local computer people have been in and say its

OK now. There's a 'tool' to remove it and I could e-mail you if you want.

Apparently the virus disarms yours anti-virus software. Very useful !

Could be. Since I got it, my Norton anti virus software told me that I had

received the W32 Klez E virus. It could not repair it but did quarantine it

so it did not affect anything.

I think it means it stops the anti-virus working which then allows any other

virus about to get in. Try having a look a this file or as Ken suggests, get

it straight from the network.

Hi Laraine,

I tried e-mailing you a few weeks ago. but my letter was returned. Hope

you're all right and that CariAnn is doing well. What's new with her and is

she still causing you some grief (with her lying)? Hope that things have

improved .

is fine, but it's difficult for her and for us that she's living at

home. She's got no friends, except for her boyfriend who calls her every

night. Now that summer is over she'll soon begin all her activities, which

she's excited about. She attends a workshop every day, but it's not

stimulating enough for her and she's much higher functioning that anyone

there. Her job at WalMart didn't work out and now we're hoping they'll find

another placement for her.

There's always something to worry about. All those parents of " little ones "

don't know what's ahead for them. Maybe things will be easier then.

Hoping to hear from you,

,

You all will be in my prayers.

When Tim was 10 he had a compound fracture of his left

tib/fib. He was in a full leg cast for 6 months. This

was a difficult time for him, as he did become

depressed.

Try to stay up beat with her. Can she move her arms?

She could color or work on work books. How is her

speech? Use this time to help any speech problems she

may have. You can play preschool board games with her

and if she is unable to move the pieces, move them for

her. I taught my kids to count this way. We count out

loud while we move the pieces. Also, Candyland is a

great way to learn your colors. Read books to her.

Perhaps you could check out new books each week from

the library for her. This will make her excited about

what new books she will get. Also, alot of libraries

have videos you can check out.

Please let us know how she is doing.

Dear ,

Poor ! How unfortunate for her! She is a Scorpion just like Jonas

and I are. I wish I had some great advice other than to read many books and go

to the library to get new ones when the ones you have at home are stale. I can

offer prayers though, so consider lifted up in prayer now and in the

weeks to come. Thank you for asking.

Hi everyone,

Just need some opinions if anyone has any. My ex mother in law died on

Monday. I was still very close to her as were my 3 kids. When I was married

to my ex I lived with them for 10 years. She raised my kids while I worked.

loves her grandma and I just told her today that she died. I do

not think she comprehends what death is. She said poor grandma, I love her.

And she keeps asking where she is now and I tell her she is with God now in

Heaven and she says can I see God.

Tomorrow is the wake and I am planning on taking her. Hopefully all will be

ok with her seeing her grandma. I took her to the hospital with my other

kids 3 times to see her and the last 2 times her grandmother was no longer

able to communicate. She just thought she was sleeping. She died from

cancer.

Any suggestions on what else to tell her. I wait until she asks questions I

don't want to keep bring it up. And has anyone else had an experience

telling there kids who were not able to understand.

Thank you

Jeanne(Mom to Nick 15, le 13, 8 MDS)

Hi Maureen!

So glad to have you as part of our group. I am Barb Martz from Western

Pennsylvania, USA. My husband Bob and I also have two sons. Our oldest son

just turned 8 this month. is in the third grade also! Jonas is our

little peanut who just turned 2 1/2 years old. He was premature, and never

has gotten baby fat or been very big. He is on the normal (Down syndrome)

chart for height, but he is in the 8th percentile for weight. He is just

plain little. He is just over 20 pounds! The boys will not likely ever be

in the same schools at the same time, or even ride the same school buses.

If they did, would have a really hard time with anyone seeing Jonas

as anything but his really cute and funny little brother! They are such

great pals, and love to laugh and play around together. There is no person

alive who can make Jonas laugh like his big brother. It is a really special

bond, and is good for both boys. I am so glad that and Tyler have one

another. They sound like they make a great pair too! You are so right that

is his best advocate! He will make his way with the people who will

matter in his life. Those who don't open their children's hearts and eyes to

see that the world is full of wonderful people who are different in many

ways cheat their kids. is really accepting of any child who is

different. He was that way before Jonas was born, but we discussed things

like that with him, and have some great children's story books about how

each person is different in his own way, but still as valuable, and

loveable. Perhaps fate had me teach this to very young for more than

one reason. We did not know that " Sir Jonas " was going to be a part of our

little family with his special needs. Yesterday I had Jonas in the

supermarket and the lady at the checkout and Jonas were " flirting " with one

another. The checkout lady said, " Let me guess, he must be about 19 months

old " . When I told her he was 2 1/2 years old, she seemed to suddenly get

some questions in her head, like, " Why isn't he talking, etc.? " I did not

explain it to her, and she said, " My he is a little fellow, well he is

awfully cute! " I left it at that. I figured the guy behind me would

appreciate that! :)

I look forward to learning more about your family, and having your

input in the group! Sounds like is doing just fine if he is in

Kindergarten at 5 1/2 years. Is he doing well this year? Does he have

special therapies or is he 100% mainstreamed? I hope everything is going

well for him! Hugs to both your boys!

Blessings,

Barb Martz

> Hi! My name is Maureen and my son has MDS. He was diagnosed at 2

weeks and is now 5 1/2. After the initial shock of learning had MDS

wore off, I tried to learn as much as possible about it. Like the rest of

you, I found very little information and I am still explaining MDS to his

teachers, therapists and new friends. attends the local elementary

school as a Kindergartener. His older brother Tyler is 9 and in 3rd grade.

Tyler loves his brother very much and is very protective of him. Tyler does

not relate the terms " handicapped " or " disabled " with and sometimes

has trouble explaining to his friends why has trouble with his speech

and why he can't quite keep up with his own peers or Tyler's peers. He

accepts for who he is and can't understand why others cannot. I keep

telling him that if we and those who love let him be himself, then

others will learn to accept and appreciate , too. Those who don't

aren't, and probably never will be, part of our lives and to try not to

worry about them. Sometimes that's easier said than done. Anyway, I am so

happy to have found this group. I look forward to having people to talk to

who understand.

-Hi Maureen and ,

Welcome to our group. My name is and our son's name is Jakob.

He is 8 years old and in mainstreamed 2nd grade with learning

support, speech and occupational therapy. We learned of his MDS

diagnosis in kindergarten. We did know he had learning delays and

he started Early Intervention at three years old for speech and fine

and gross motor skill help. Then he went to a specialized preschool

at 4 years old.

Where do you live? We live in Northcentral Pennsylvania, USA.

I will look forward to hearing more about in the future. I

understand your frustration with Tyler's friends. I have relatives

that do not know about Jakob's diagnosis and they try to find out

about it by antagonizing him. I really loose my patience. We have

not told most of our family members under the advice of his

physician, because Jakob does not have the typical charactaristics

of DS and we do not want him treated differently.

Feel free to e-mail me personally anytime.

Take care!

I've never come across this situation, but my thinking is the group # is

still part of the employer group therefor they would have to follow the same

ESRD rule. Not sure on this but it makes sense to me.

Hi Folks, In situations where the former employer allows a new Medicare

beneficiary to retain her COBRA, I run into the rare COBRA administrator

who insists that the policyholder is now considered to be on an individual

plan instead of EGHP - in other words, the COBRA will become 2ndary when

Medicare entitlement begins. Is this EVER possible? Thanks for your

thoughts.
