Hi My name is le. I had a test by my allergist quite a bit of years ago, which found that my antibodies are fighting my thyroid. I was sent to my endocronologist. Since then, i have had ultrasounds, and my nodules biopsied. Then 2 years ago, my mom had her first ultrasound and biopsy, and she had Thyroid cancer. I am going to have my thyroid removed in April. We have a condition called Familial Polyposis (which is connected to colon caner as well as connected to Thyroid cancer.) So that is the other reason I am having it out.

They say besides my antibodies, the thyroid is fine, but i have been on Levoxyl for over a year for precautionary reasons (knowing that i would need the thyroid out soon).

Hi, I have been following this group for a few months and really have received a lot of info. I am still confused after reading these last two postings - how do they check for antibodies? I saw a new doctor in November and told him my hashi history. (I was diagnosed in 1976) I haven't been feeling well for some time and have had some weight gain. My blood work in November 2006 was as follows: T3 Total 99 T4 Free 1.2 TSH 1.20 My doctor said all was normal. I am currently taking 100 mcg of Synthroid. I didn't ask my doctor about antibodies -

my question is, do those three tests cover the antibodies? I just don't understand the antibodies. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks, Betzi Melis wrote: Hi Dana. My name is . I had to fight to be diagnosed with Hashi's. No-one would test for the antibodies until I was30 (I am 35 now). I went 10 years undiagnosed. I have no family history

of Hashi's. I have four children and my second oldest which is a girl has been diagnosed with a goiter for several years. She is now 14 and I just demanded that her antibodies be drawn. She doesn't have a weight issue but does have a goiter and is always tired and worn down. I had a partial thyroidectomy back in July of 2004 due to a very large nodule that would not shrink. They left in my right lobe which I feel is a mistake. Now just a little over 2 years later I may have to have yet another surgery. I had a hysterectomy & right ovary removed in May of 2005 due to adenomyosis and ovarian cysts. Welcome to the group and hope that you get the answers and support that you need! New Memeber HiI live in NM which seems to be quite a little hot spot for Hoshimoto's. I have been diagnosed for just over a yeat. I have a mom who was diagnosed in her mid 40s and is in her 70s now, and 2 daughter with it both diagnosed in very early 20s, one daughter is very mild and the other is very severe with HUGE nodules. I also had a Grandfather who had his thyroid removed for "thyroid cancer".My one daughter and I seem to get the most

symptomatic when we need increases in our Synthroid with muscle aches, exhaustion, and "brain fogs". We are both just getting over a bad period. I was sent by my primary to rheumatology and no one including me had not thought to check my thyroid studies (it wasn't time yet, I get it done every 3 months) I finally got smart and had my studies done early and sure enough it was time for another increase and now I feel better. I bet others of you get bumped around like that also, I need to just start calling my endo 1st when I feel crappy. I am very interested in alternative treatments people have used succesfully esp diet suggestions. I am in my 40s and a very active person and don't have time for these stupid bad times. I enjoy long walks with my dogs and hate the days I am lieing in bed with them staring at me wanting to go out and play with me. I also have a 13 yo Autistic son who requires immense amounts of energy.

Sorry to go on and on, any help with alternative treatments to help levels stay norm would be immensely helpful.Dana

No the antibodies is a different test (still a blood test though) but it takes about 5-7 days to get the results. Thyroid peroxidase antibody (TPOAb), Thyroglobulin antibody (TgAb), and Thyroid stimulating hormone receptor antibody (TRAb) I only had the first two because the last one if only for Graves. Here is a website that explains them. http://www.labtestsonline.org/understanding/analytes/thyroid_antibodies/test.html Your TSH looks good but I can't recall the values for the Frees offhand. I will have to look them up. Also if you are diagnosed with something like Hashi's then you won't even need to look at the TSH anymore. The frees are the only thing that will matter if you have hashi's. Betty wrote: Betty <betzi0921> wrote: Hi, I have been following this group for a few months and really have received a lot of info.
