thyroid and leukemia.... why is there a connection?

Why is there a connection between acute leukemia and thyroid disorders? Does anyone have any idea? I did a google search and found a ton of resources that left my head swimming.

I am heading to see a hematologist/oncologist for a bone marrow biopsy and I am very nervous about this. If anyone could offer some advice or words of comfort or even some prayers I would greatly appreciate it.
