Not unexpectedly the contractor did not return by the deadline I gave him. Today I went down to the courthouse and filed the claim just as I said I would. When I pulled up in front of the house, the mailman was just up the street, which gave me time to run in and put the copy of the notice to mail to the contractor. The sheriffs will deliver the other copy to him in person. Now he has until Feb. 3 of 2005 to get the work done or we go to court. If he does it to my satisfaction before then, I can call off the proceedings. If not, we'll be in court and see how it goes from there.

That concerns me a little. It is not so much the money aspect of it, since the worst that would happen is I would lose and have to pay another contractor (the low bid being $2,000). As you might expect it is the person to person confrontation that worries me. I think that is one reason he thought he could play me, because I treated him well and was lenient with him. But I just don't really like face to face verbal confrontations. I am a good leader when everyone is working as a team and can handle problems within that team. But dealing with this kind of person in such situations is another matter altogether. Then again there is the Aspie thing about us tending to believe people are being honest like we are. Still, this will be resolved one way or the other in another couple of months.

P.S. I am NOT going to mention AS in the court. That case will be solely based on evidence of the contracts and the pictures of the mess and damage he left.
