Guest guest
I have taken a few course online. That is an easy way to do it but it takes discipline. Also, be careful where you decide to take courses from. Some scams do exist out there. Make sure any place you look at has a good reputation and is acredited by one of the national acreditiing agencies. Both the college itself, if it has a physical campus, and the online portion must be acredited or the degree will be worthless. The college website should say who they are acredited by. I would also check with those agencies to make certain that they college is really acredited. That double check should eliminate the scams. Guest guest
, Have you thought about getting an online degree? Wendi " It is in fact nothing short of a miracle that the modern methods of instruction have not yet entirely strangled the holy curiosity of inquiry; for what this delicate little plant needs more than anything, besides stimulation, is freedom. It is a very grave mistake to think that the enjoyment of seeing and searching can be promoted by means of coercion and a sense of duty. " -- Albert Einstein (1875-1955), German-born American theoretical physicist, theories of relativity, philosopher School & Accomodations Although it was obvious that I had Asperger's Syndrome at the time I didn't despite having I.E.P meetings receive a proper diagnosis of A.S until after High School. Due to the psychological demands and environmental stimuli incompatibility I had to leave high school early under the notion of starting a computer business. Unfortunately I had similar problems in business as I had in school so I failed: I was sixteen when I started the business and maintained it for two years with a retail location and expensive overhead. : ( I am now twenty-three years old and regret ever leaving high school though I couldn't have handled it any longer anyways. I have internal problems with being around groups of people despite conditioning myself and the class rooms are not at all a good learning environment. I attempted to go to a community college under the assumption they knew what A.S was in the disability office however they didn't and I wasn't really able to properly communicate what I had in mind to study. I asked that I study independently and meet with the professor / teachers and to work at my own pace. I have been on disability for three years roughly and it's the equivalent to hell. Not only do I not have any real social contacts (not that I truly want any) but I have no perceivable hope. At one time I did attempt to contact several online A.S advocacy organizations for assistance but I found myself further confused. I feel that perhaps because of my age and the medical communities not really knowing about A.S I lost out on what could have been accommodations that would have resulted in completing high school and going to college. Now that I am twenty three it seems as though nothing is available and no system entity really cares to assist. I would like to know if anyone has any ideas. I did have official I.E.P meetings in high school and had all those tests some of you might be familiar with. I live in California and my diagnosis's are: Asperger's Syndrome ADD-Inattentive Type Also I have found that I was allergic to at least milk products that constantly effected my ability to think properly. I have learned that this is not that uncommon in those with neurological differences so in a way that further proves to me that doctors didn't know what they were doing. I feel I was left out and not properly sought after despite my explanations to the school psychologist whom did the testing and was supposed to represent me in the I.E.P meetings. I know that there are more severe cases of Asperger's then mine but I still believe I was not properly accommodated for and as a result I am on disability and non-productive. If anyone has any ideas please let me know. FAM Secret Society is a community based on respect, friendship, support and acceptance. Everyone is valued. Guest guest
Hey, ! I dropped out of high school when I was 17. I went and got pregnant a couple of times and was a welfare mom before I started junior college at 26. The junior colleges take you if you are at least 18. I went to Irvine Valley College in Irvine. I'm in So. Cal., too! I have ADHD and I am pretty sure I am an aspie. I hated sitting in class. I ditched most of my way through high school. I was never diagnosed, though. So I didn't have meds to help me. Actually, I wasn't diagnosed as ADHD until my 2nd year of law school, when my 2nd child was diagnosed at 7 years old. (That was my " Aha! " moment) But I really wanted to be a lawyer, so that motivated me to suffer through classes. You know what helped the most? By the time I was in my first year of law school, I was able to buy a laptop computer. I played backgammon all through my classes. See, the only way I can learn is really by self-teaching. I have to read it and write it myself. The lectures? I didn't really learn anything because I didn't understand the points, really. I mean, the lectures were sort of like helpful filler for what I studied on my own, but I couldn't have passed based on the lectures alone. Whatever you choose to do, don't let being ADD or an Aspie hold you back. It's painful, but if you need to go to school, you can do it. I am proof. :--) Oh, btw, it took me a total of 11 years to get through school. I made it through undergrad classes at UCI in 4.5 years, but then I took a detour and went through a paralegal program for 1.5 years, then law school took 5 years. I took so long to get through law school because I had two kids during law school. Well, actually, I had a total of 5 kids by the time I finished law school.
