Hi Tony,

That is a HUGE bummer. I was diagnosed with end stage liver disease in 12/05.

Be sure to ask when you go back to gastro doc about a possible Transplant. I

have been on the list now since 2/19/07. It is a lot of work to do all they

require, BUT it will be worth it in the long run. My only hope is when I get to

where I need the transplant an organ will be available.

I am doing some work now on Organ Donor Awareness. They can also do a live

donor transplant IF your TX center does that. Mine does not yet but is starting

that program in 2008.

I know this is a lot of info to throw at you but I hope it gives you hope. I

have cirrhosis from Hep C. This is a great group and you will get a lot of info

and support.

If you need any help with research, I have some great websites for Transplant

information.

Write to me directly, and I will send them to you.

Good Luck and let me know if you need to talk.

Hey Group!

My name is Tony. I went in to have my gall bladder removed 3 weeks ago and was

told on my follow-up visit that I am in " end stage liver disease " . More blood

was drawn this week to determine the cause of the cirrhosis, because although I

drink a moderate amount, I am told that was not the cause. Auto-immune hepatitis

was mentioned. I am presently awaiting results. Right now I have been told that

I have 3-5 years if I follow all the rules (no alcohol,meat,tobacco,etc.). This

has left me floundering. I joined to hopefully gain more knowledge and perhaps a

little encouragement. Thanks

Hi, Tony. Welcome to the group. My name is Bobby, and as you might have seen in

my earlier post today, I have ESLD from alcoholism. Are you being evaluated for

a liver transplant? Everything I've read has said that early evaluation leads

to a much better survival rate. Please do not lose hope. I was also in a state

of shock when I had my gallbladder out and cirrhosis was discovered.

I wish for you to have peace. It is what I try for every day, and the simple

fact that every day is a gift becomes a reality not just a theory or saying. The

MELD score is used to

determine how sick a person is by the numbers 6 is lowest, 40 is highest. The

AASLD

recommends liver transplant evaluation at 10. The Mayo clinic MELD sit is-

Thanks Pat, I was wondering why you'd be using a blood doctor as a liver

specialist. ;) Clarification helps.
