Guest guest
H ello everyone, I am a monther of a 6 year old and a 13 year old. I am also a teacher. About 9 months ago, I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism with a tsh of 12.3. The family doctor put me on 25 mcg synthoid and sent me to an endochronolgist. It took 3 months to get in and when I did, my new blood test showed a tsh of 0.1 so I was taken off the synthroid for 6 weeks, after this, the endochronolgist did a whole bunch of blood tests. My tsh was 75, and she diagnosed me with hashimotos thyroiditis. I am now on 100 mcg of synthroid every day and my recent blood test (at Thanksgiving) showed my levels were all good...the problem? I have ALL of the symptoms of hypothyroidism still! I am tired, depressed, gained 20 pounds in the last 3 months and still gaining, dry skin, constipated, freezing cold all the time, memory loss, hearing loss, etc. etc. The endochronologist says she is baffeled and has no idea why I have the symptoms like this when my blood work all looks good. All I know is that I CANNOT continue life like this. My little children that I teach asked my why I don't smile anymore and the worst part is that I don't know why I don't smile anymore. I am building my dream home right now...shouldn't I be excited? Going on Vacation for Christmas...should I be excited? I do not get excited about anything anymore. It's like I'm part zombie and I just keep getting fatter and fatter. I can't do this anymore and the doctor cannot help me............ I have finally decided to reach out....in desperation...I'm so glad there's a group for my condition, but I don't know if anyone else has the issues I do- my endochronologist does not seem to think so.... Guest guest
Hi , here is my story, maybe you can relate a little. In July I was diagnosed with Hashi. My family doc. put me on 0.25mcg Levoxyl, which is only T4. (Synthroid is only T4 also). My TSH was (only) 1.70, I had muscle and joint pain, depression, tiredness, constipation, couldn't sleep and so on. She send me to an Endo, he said, your blood work looks fine / by then the TSH was 0.30 and I felt wonderful. I was not depressed, I was walking and running around the block, I didn't need a nap in the afternoon. The Endo told me I have fibromyalgia, I should take Cymbalta and get this / I don't have a thyroid problem besides Hashi. Daah... I went home, depressed, because I knew that without the meds. I would get the pain back. I went to my doc. and she put me back on Levoxyl. I stayed on the same low dosage for almost 3 month when my symptoms came back. I told my doc. about it and dared to suggest that I need more hormones. She suddenly told me, after she adviced me weeks earlier that she wants my TSH close to 0.0, that I have fibromyalgia and I am clinically depressed and I should take Cymbalta. Also, she said, without a blood test I can not give you any thyroid hormone. Talk about hell. I sat there with tears in my eyes which she interpreted as depression. I could have strangled her. I made an appointment with my gynecologist. When I saw her, she said, your blood work looks fine. Your TSH is 1.70. I pulled out my blood results and showed her the level of 1.7 in July and 0.3 in Sept when I felt wonderful. She said, well, than you need thyroid hormone. She switched me to Armour and said I should take 30 mg per day. I didn't feel much better after 1 week and I increased the dosage on my own, slowly , just 1/4 pill daily more. By the time I saw her again I was on 45mg Armour and told her I still have symptoms and need more. She than found out that she forgot to put me on 30mg twice a day. Since I am taking 60 mg per day, I feel much better. I read some books on thyroid issues and one doctor said, one needs 1.6 mg Armour per KG body weight. Divide lbs. by 2.2 and you have Kg. This would be about 100 mg Armour for me. There is a new book out the titel is Hypothyroidism type 2 by Dr. Starr. He explains that people who have a normal or normal to low TSH and still have all the symptoms are to be considered to have type 2 . I just ordered the book, didn't read it, but you can find it on Youtube. Check it out, you will be amaised. Most Endos don't know anything, and they don't want to know. My doc. went to a conference the other day and within 100's of docs. there was one Endo. she also told me that she does not believe in checking the TSH, since it doesn't tell you anything. She also said, that docs. are getting threatened to get their licensence taking away,, if they treat people with thyroid issues and push their TSH close to 0.0. I hope my story can help you. If you have enough thyroid meds in order to get through the next month, I would suggest you increase the dosage and maybe you consider to switch. But that's another issue. Please keep us up to date, I know how you feel, I was just there, laying on the sofa most of the day and in pain all day and all night. That's no way to live. There is hope. Maybe you can find an gyn who specializes in hormone treatment. Check out thyroid.com and http://www.hotzehwc.com/bookcopy/thankyou.asp http://forums.about.com/ab-thyroid also http://www.thyroid-info.com/topdrs/index.htm here you can find good doctors in your area. Even if you have to drive 1 hour to see a good doctor until you find someone closer, it would be worth while To: thyroiditis From: wendyincortez@...Date: Sat, 19 Dec 2009 15:40:11 -0700Subject: Any advice...
