Well tempeh is Indonesian and natto and tamari are Japanese.

However, the person is clearly being a very suspicious reader. While

temph may not be directly related to Chinese food production

techniques, the others clearly are. And the text says nothing about

the foods actually being Chinese, it merely takes examples of things

that were created in this tradition.

sounds like the guy is looking for excuses to disagree.

We didn't say they were chinese--we said "like" chinese. We know these foods by their Japanese names (Although I think "tempeh" may be from Indonesia) but the chinese were the first to ferment the soybean. Sally
