Guest guest
I see lots of messages about yeast and candida -- yet most medical professionals that I have spoken to consider it to be nonsense. Consider the following article: http://www.quackwatch.com/01QuackeryRelatedTopics/candida.html Any responses? Thanks in advance,
Guest guest
Joy I very much agree with you. Wynn's initial yeast tests done at the local hosptial were negative, but those sent to Great Plains show he was full of yeast and that was verified when he saw Dr Cave in Baton Rouge. After being gfcf and yeast free over two years..as well as a " no Junk food diet " and then doing Dr Megson's bethanchol protocol we have seen great strides. In july he started chelation of arsenic and mercury and I am seeing a little boy I have not known before..it is astounding!!!!Two weeks ago when I was there he said to me, " nana, moma and dada don't understand me " WOW I nearly fainted!!!I asked what they did not understand and he replied " They don't understand that I do not want to misbehave or be mean! " Well ofcourse they do understand but what good thinking and communicating. He has gone from DMSA to ALA and I am expecting to see more and more of the litlle boy he was meant to be. I know it is hard..there are so many choices..I think that is one reason that we need to network with one another and share the good and the bad.....hoping that we can eliminate many steps for parents in the future. However, I feel thatr in yeast/candida overgrowth is a very real condition. My son was diagnosed (via stool sample) with extreme overgrowth by a well respected Gastroenterologist at Emory. She suggested I give him acidolphyllis, which helped and when he had to take yet another round of antibiotics for an ear infection she put him on Nyastatin. My son had leaky gut from a very early age, mainly due to the frequent use of antibiotics. He has been on the Gluten Free Casein Free diet for almost two years. It has made an incredible amount of difference in his life. I have met physicians who are skeptical, and I am aware that the mainstream medical community feels that autism has no cure and they really don't know how to treat it. I don't feel that way. When I see a specialist with my son I discuss alternative treatments and theories, if they are close minded to them completely, I seek other Dr's. We have also sought help through the alternative community as well. Thanks, Debra
Guest guest
....I have not had my son tested for yeast overgrowth but decided to put him on acidophilus anyway ( I used to take it myself for no other reason other than to aid digestion ) We started him on it approx. 2 weeks ago. We have seen an explosion in his spontaneous language & a lot of things have " clicked " with him in the last couple of weeks. This may have nothing to do with acidophilus. It may just be that a lot of things would click anyway. But who knows? I don't try & research too heavily as you will always find 2 opposite opinions. As long as it doesn't hurt Ivan, I like to try different things to see if it has any effect on him. Annette I admit it, I'm skeptical > >I see lots of messages about yeast and candida -- yet most medical >professionals that I have spoken to consider it to be nonsense. > >Consider the following article: >http://www.quackwatch.com/01QuackeryRelatedTopics/candida.html > >Any responses? > >Thanks in advance, > > > > > > >
Guest guest
I must admit that I was skeptical of these theories when I first heard of them. I am now more skeptical of the medical community and their easy dismissal of possible causes simply because there have not been sufficient studies to prove them. The problem is that until more studies are now, all these theories can be dismissed as based on ancedoctal evidence - studies cost a lot of money. I read a synopsis of the hearing before Congress concerning money to fund such studies (the bill was passed and signed by the president) - in this transcript which was written I believe by the mother who started the GFCF diet ( S??? - can't recall her name), you can really see the conflict between the conservative medical community who won't move off of a twenty year old understanding of autism and a more progressive group of doctors, led mainly by Dr Micheal Goldberg of NIDS. (I will try to find the link to it and post it later) The progressive group has impressive credentials. Look at the list of doctors who attending this biological/autism conference in Florida http://www.autismconference.org . I believe the yeast theory is considered plausible by these doctors. As parents of autistic children, we have to be skeptical of treatments because there are some out there that shouldn't be tried. But we also must be skeptical of those who easily dismiss our concerns. I am learning this the hard way - this is why my autistic son was not diagnosed until this year - he is five. Good luck to all of you and Happy New Year.
