Guest guest
Tiger Balm is from the Orient, but its mostly like a liniment kinda stuff. Its in a Petroleum Gel base so it stays where you put it, and you can use a tiny amount. Usually a dab on each temple when I was a young and beautiful hippy lady. Boy, those were YEARS back. I use bag balm today on my dry feet. Drier because of the diabetes. I hate the rough skin on them, bag balm works wonders and causes me no problems. I break out from nearly everything. Thank heaven they took perfume out of TP, and colors! I still have to be very careful about my laundry, what detergent I use, and rinse almost everything that touches my skin with white vinegar in the rinse to get all the soap residue out. Yes, liquid Geritol, mostly alcohol. My mom had a prescription of something she called Beef Wine and Iron that the Compounding Pharmacist made up for her on order from her Dr, it wasn't the over the counter stuff. I bet it had morphine in it. Knocked her out cold. I never took Castor Oil internally, but have had many offer me abdominal compresses of it to supposedly help clear my liver. I just don't trust ricin, its too dangerous and just plain scary. My mom planted a castor bean on year, made a real big pretty plant in the garden. Don't know if it ran off any of the pests. Didn't run us kids off. We ate the raspberries, the carrots and radishes, the raw corn off the ear in the garden same as always. Sally Shines I never heard of Tiger balm...does it really work for getting rid of headaches? There is a product that I use. It will probably make you laugh, but it has been used for years on people even though it is meant for animals...and that is bag balm. It is used on cow utters to keep them free of bacteria and to soften them. People use it on areas where they have a problem with dry skin. The Amish people use it alot. It is great for chapped lips even though it doesn't have the fragrants of roses. It is a very old remedy. I remember alot of old products like Cloverine salve http://www.maststoreonline.com/browse.cfm/4,111.htm which was used as lip balm but it is almost 98% petrolium jelly and Doan's pills (not good for someone with liver disease) for back aches http://www.theonion.com/content/node/29961 http://home.intekom.com/pharm/menthola/doans.html and 's little liver pills for a variety of uses including headache. http://library.wellcome.ac.uk/doc_WTL038371.html Maybe other ones here remember old time recipes and medications they used. Castor oil, I believe is one that no one will forget. That and Geritol.
