Guest guest
Jo, Actually, it isn't *that* expensive! From the British National Formulary: Fluconazole (Non-proprietary) Prescription-only medicine Capsules , fluconazole 50 & #8201;mg, net price 7-cap pack = 98p; 150 & #8201;mg, single-capsule pack = 91p; 200 & #8201;mg, 7-cap pack = £2.02. But if you go to a pharmacy and buy a single 150mg (e.g. standard dose for thrush) they charge about GBP 5 - or GBP 10 for the Canesten brand. That is an utter rip-off. And you can't buy any other sizes/quantities OTC. Unfortunately, travel doesn't work. Partner has sitting problems and gets flare ups of her erythromelalgia if she cannot raise her feet when needed. And she can't drive (due to the illnesses) - and I need to work. Her doctor isn't unpleasant or overtly bad - just not doing what is required. Rod > > Rod > I haven’t met a single person happy yet with their GP - unfortunately. > I have changed my surgeries during last 6 months - 3 times. So this will tell you how “happy†I was with them. And I will continue - till I find a person who will work with me and for me - not against. > If you have transport and distance is not a problem for you - I would suggest moving to a different surgery and find a doctor with a brain. > I’m sorry that you had to order Fluconazole from US †" I know it’s very expensive medication without prescription. So good luck and let’s hope that this will be enough for your partner to get rid of Candida. >  >  > Good luck > Jo
Guest guest
Oh wow, that is really cheap! Can you give me the name and web address where you got it from please? If it's so cheap, I'm not going to have any more battles with my GP over this stuff. I thought it was so expensive (like you're mentioning) one 150mg Canesten is priced GPP 10 in my pharmacy. Guest guest
Jo, Those BNF prices are the 'internal' NHS prices. So we can't get that cheap. Partner is buying from: http://www.internationalpharmacy.com/en/products/details/551301 Much more than BNF prices - but way less than the absolute rip-off GBP 10. And other things we have bought from them have taken around two weeks or so to arrive.
